Surface Dock keeps disconnecting/reconnecting USB devices with Surface Book 2

Reinstalling Nvidia and Intel USB hub drivers did not solve the problem since they were already up to date for me. Simply reinstalling them made no difference. 

What made things a bit better for me is to go to Device Manager -> USB controllers and find all the "Generic USB Hub devices"

For each of those devices, you want to check and see that on their "Details" page they have the hardware ID as VID = 045E (Microsoft) and PID =0901, 0902, etc... to make sure they are one of the USB hub ports on the Surface Dock.

For each of these devices, I went to their Power Management tab and unchecked the box that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

This seems to help because now I have fewer disconnections, but doesn't solve the problem entirely. I might have missed a root device or something else. 

The reason I'm looking in this area is because I noticed that the times when I'm seeing USB disconnecting seems to be when my Surface device is really stressed on performance, mostly when playing some games that has the CPU and GPU running near their limits, fan's going full blast and the computer's still getting warmer. It seems like when the system is thermal throttling, it decides to turn off power to the USB devices and disconnect your keyboard and mouse because as a side effect? What the hell. 

From this observation, I don't think spending money to buying a Surface Dock 2 would actually solve the problem if my suspicion is right -- this is a software configuration issue, not a hardware defect. Windows device drivers are being overly aggressive in trying to manage power and turned off devices that is detrimental to the user's experience.

Also I got the Microsoft support in a chat yesterday, and aside from asking dumb questions (is the firmware of my keyboard and mouse are Windows compatible? Seriously?!), they ended up telling me to purchase the new Surface Dock 2 (which not released yet by the way).

So to fix an issue that Microsoft should fix, they ask me to spend CAD$300+ to fix it for them. That's ridiculous.

I was planning to purchase the SB3, but with that kind of support for an high end device, I will surely not. I better buy a MacBook pro.

I tried a powered USB hub (attached to the hub, no point of attaching it to the SFB2), but it increased the response time, and my gaming keyboard (with animated lighted keys) was lagging. So not a option.

I also have the same issue with the wireless keyboard and mouse (Microsoft also).  I have 2 docking stations, on at home and another at the office. Both have the same problem. I updated the firmware and even reinstalled the complete Windows 10 he problem is still there.

The same issue is happening to me as well. As a workaround I am plugging my USB devices (mouse/keyboard) directly into my Surface Book 2 (15"). This somewhat defeats the purpose of having a Surface Dock if I can't even use the USB ports. It mostly occurs when the CPU and computer is under higher load, I hear the fan come on and then the USB ports on the dock disconnect/reconnect intermittently. It is very frustrating that all of my equipment is fairly new.

I have updated all devices to the latest firmware (Surface Book and Dock). I reinstalled Windows 10 Pro and it is still happening. I have gone on to use three different docks and they all do the same thing. I think it may be related to power consumption as the 15" Surface Book 2 draws a lot of power under high load. Could be related to why the computer draws more power than it takes in when playing games and utilizing the GPU (known issue already). 

Hopefully Microsoft can issue a replacement or figure out what the issue may be.
