Iexperienced this problem this morning on my Surface Pro 2.  After being connected at a coffee shop, shutting down and rebooting at work I tried to connect to the wireless connection at work and am also getting the "no connection available".  I get the same network icon and red X.

When I troubleshoot I get "The Marvell AVASTAR Wireless Composite Device adapter is experiencing driver- or hardware-related problems"

Any help greatly appreciated.

Read this entire chain of posts with interest as I have owned a Surface Pro 2 for about a year and have experienced the same problem with the wireless card. Happened again tonight. I found my own way to resolve the problem via uninstalling the Marvel driver. It is not a fix as the problem recurs. I have probably performed this routine a dozen times or more. I have also experienced a problem with the detachable keyboard. For the most part I like this hardware, but the wireless card is a major problem.

I will try the hard reboot next time to see if it is a faster solution. And there will be a next time...

I followed the Microsoft guidance (below) except, based on something I had read online (which of course must be true), I did not follow #9.  I did, in fact, check the box.  After I turned my Surface off and then restarted it, the Marvell Controller was magically installed and everything has worked fine since (over a month ago). Since this runs counter to the Microsoft guidance, do this at your own peril; however, it was the only thing that worked for me.

    1. Go to the Desktop
    2. Swipe from the right
    3. Touch Settings
    4. Touch Control Panel
    5. Touch Device Manager
    6. Open the Network Adapters
    7. Right click on the Marvell Avastar 350N Wireless Network Controller
    8. Touch Uninstall
    9. *****Do not check the box*****
    10. Click on OK
    11. Restart your Surface.
    12. Once your Surface restarts, the Marvell driver will be reinstalled.
