Surface Pro 3 throttling

Surface Pro 3 is throttling CPU while playing games. I have confirmed this while attempting to play diablo 3 which runs fine at first, until the temperature get to a certain degree and fps start to drop. Not the only one experiencing this issue so please fix through a firmware upgrade to bring back "high performance" profile like my surface 1. Thanks

    The Pro 3 models have a special built "Haswell" series of CPUs.  These are not the ones that you put in a desktop or laptop even though, they would work if they built a motherboard for them.

    For the Pro 3 series, these particular CPUs are flatter and wider.  If you want to see a picture of the i5 that is in the current shipped model, go to http://www.ifixit.com.

    The "Haswell" series is a whole wide range of CPUs and chances are, you never seen or heard of the others.  These particular CPUs are built just for the Pro 3 models.

    The circuitry within them are exactly the same as the regular desktop and laptop "stacked" CPUs that you normally see and those are designed to fit the LGA 1150 "Haswell" socket.  The desktop CPU version was used in the Pro and Pro 2.  So, YES, it is still the 4300U but the chassis of the CPU is redesigned for these tablets.

    They did that to flatten them and allow greater cooling for a thinner computer case.

    Did you know that they made a Pentium and Celeron versions of the "Haswell" CPUs?

    Broadwell will be the next Intel generation coming out.

    You keep reffering to the 4300U as a desktop processor, used in Surface Pro 2. That series are ultra low voltage laptop processors. They can, and are, used in desktops as well. But they are primarily laptop processors.. They don't hold a candle to normal voltage real desktop processors... The Surface Pro's are far too thin etc to be able to take on desktop processors.

    Well its TDP cap has to be a little higher for it to be able to turbo boost from 1.7GHz to 3.3Ghz instead of from 1.9GHz to 2.9GHz that the i5 does. I believe that this extra TDP is just for short periods though and the rated 15W for both processors is more accurate for sustained performance.

    Well knowing the TDP limit for the i7 is 6W higher than the i5 would have made me consider getting that instead.

    EDIT: Ok I just created a few plots from the power tool after playing Halo Spartan Assult. I am on battery, I should try on AC.

    Anyway, I am getting a total power output of 25-26W for the GPU and CPU combined lasting for nearly 100s.

    I would like to point out that the processor dropping doesn't have to mean the computer is throttling. It could simply be that the computer is bottlenecked somewhere and there is no need to be at full throttle. Just something to keep in mind while people are testing things out.

    I still think this has to be a graphics issue because the computer can maintain a CPU load 100% with 2.2GHz+ as long as there is no significant graphics load.

    I wonder if this graphics issue is why programs like MS Sudoku make the computer get so hot? 

    Edit: So I just did a test. I started Sudoku and the Intel power gadget. The CPU was doing nothing and down clocked to 800MHz. Not thermally clocked it just didn't have anything to do. That didn't stop the computer from getting very hot. Intel also indicated that I was pulling around 5.0W of power to just sit and do nothing with the CPU. The GT Frq0 was also reported at 0.6GHz, which I think is very strange considering something was drawing a lot of power.

    According to a friend of mine that analyzed the code behind MS Sudoku , the cause of heat while playing this game is a library used by the game which was poor written. In another words, bad code.
