Repeated Daily Crashes of Desktop Window Manager in Reliability Monitor When Using Pen

I called MS and they told me the pen crashing issue was related to OneNote, but I did not have it open when it crashed on me today. They also said Zoom is causing issues not just in Surface line, so they discouraged me from getting a replacement.

I am now trying the rename HeatCore.DLL tip I mentioned above. Hopefully, I no longer see any more DWM crashes involving HeatCore.DLL

EDIT: It appears sfc /scannow brings the file back. Regardless, when I tried deleting the renamed HeatCore.DLL, it wouldn't let me, since DWM was using it. So it doesn't appear this actually will work in any case. Not even through rebooting into WinPE and deleting through Command prompt. This is one file that won't go away apparently.

I saw in another thread another user might have had luck renaming/deleting HeatCore.DLL, which is in both our error dumps. If you are having issues still, might be worth a shot? 

Apparently I jinxed myself since upon using my pen as I was writing this thread I was able to get DWM to crash. I think at this point since I've gotten blurry text in Zoom and now DWM crash while using pen today, I'm going to ask MS to send me a replacement device.

I think you're right. I could definitely it see being the result of a new update. I don't have access to old Reliability Monitor since I have updated to 20H2 and clean installed, and I don't remember having such a frequent issue earlier in the year.

I'll be keeping an eye on it throughout this week. I feel like it has to be a recent Windows or driver update. I would frequently have my Surface go between on and sleep mode while at work or during my classes and use the pen without these kind of issues in the past.

I haven't used my Surface dock in many months, so for me that's not related.

Depending upon the day, my Surface may be in sleep mode the entire day. Or on some days, in and out of sleep mode throughout the day. Sometimes for brief periods to look up stuff at work and sometimes for more extended sessions when writing memos, doing scheduling, etc. 

I do run the Microsoft PowerToys on my computers. Do you? I've been running them for a while and didn't have this issue in the past while running them. So I can't see them explicitly causing the problem...But I just updated from 0.20 to 0.25 after posting my original message just to see if it makes a difference this week. 

I just tried my pen while my Surface was connected to my second screen and it crashed, so I'm starting to think it's the being in sleep and coming back from that increases the propensity of the crashes. No, I don't have Powertoys installed.
