Surface Book 2 battery drain whilst off

I have had a Surface Book 2 for 9 months now. It drains 5-10% battery whilst switched off every day. I know this is a common complaint, yet why is it an issue on a $4000AUD laptop?

Can I return it for a refund as it does not meet my needs?

Yes, the drain is a result of the detach function. I cannot remember where I read it, and I don’t think Microsoft has officially announced it either, but it seems to be “officially” the cause.

It won’t be fixed either. Microsoft ignore threads like these.

Same problem here (a few months old). Battery appears to be constantly draining.

I have also never got anything close to the 17hrs of lifetime that was advertised which is really disappointing and was actually the major reason I forked out for the highest end Surface book 2 in the first place.

Tried to reinstall windows but it's made no difference. Whilst I get ~10hrs of on-time from a clean install of windows that's sitting idle in battery saver mode I too am draining when the device is off and not even in use (~10%/day). It's completely unacceptable.

Same issue here.  Welcome to the club I guess.  As is like many of your stories, I, too, suffer from same exact problem. I have it down to only losing 2% (overall) overnight but most coming from Battery 2. I guess I should be glad.  I actually try different methods of shut down each time, recording the % of batt. life and then record the next morning, etc...  I have tried nearly EVERYTHING I have read and have performed every "trick" aforementioned in this thread. I will try to contact Microsoft Support soon and maybe they will have a solution.  I really hope they don't offer a replacement as I have customized my SB2 to be my "Dream Machine" since I waited so long to get one. Regardless, I'll keep everyone posted.

I have the same exact problem. The battery drains while the device is shut off. Sadly, I just realized and now I have to Warranty and Microsoft store told me all they can do is to charge me CAD810 and give me a refurbished device!!!!! What should I do? ![](https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/ee3e40b4-f7f0-4e1d-8502-41d1c0c3efe4?platform=QnA

    Hello Guys :)

So I have another update. I have sent in the replacement device for another replacement device since the first replacement had backlight bleeding problems. I got the second replacement today, and guess what? the device wouldn't power on since it was completely drained! I have not yet tested the battery drain problem since I only got it today, but I can quite assure you that it also has the problem since it came empty from storage, which probably means that the battery was draining while the laptop was in storage. Haha, I really can't believe this! 3 Laptops with the exact same battery drain problem. I really don't know what to do anymore, should I try with another replacement? I am now 95% sure that ALL surface book 2 suffer from the same problem and that many people don't realize it or use it plugged it all the time or do not leave their laptop off for a long period of time. Pretty sad...
