Surface Book 2 battery drain whilst off

I have had a Surface Book 2 for 9 months now. It drains 5-10% battery whilst switched off every day. I know this is a common complaint, yet why is it an issue on a $4000AUD laptop?

Can I return it for a refund as it does not meet my needs?

I even tried to power it off by pushing the power button for 15 seconds and that also didn't work... can any microsoft representative just inform us what exactly is consuming so much power?

I seriously doubt it, since it would mean that they would have to admit an unacceptable (and irreversible) engineering flaw plaguing their product. They will never do such a thing: it would mean they are admitting that they have been selling a clearly defective machine.

    Hello,

I don't know if this has always been the case, and I've never noticed it before, but my surface book seems to be draining it's battery whist completely shut down.

I only just started taking notice because I thought it was my 'Surface Dock' not charging. I updated the dock to the latest firmware and thought that the end of the problems, but, alas no.

I jave got to do some more test but on first glance I think I might be loosing substantially more charge (whilst shutdown) than  the reported 5-6% mentioned in some posts.

I have read through most post, and a few external links, am I right in thinking there is, as yet, not solution to this problem?

    Thanks all

    Hi,

    Welcome to the club :(

There is no solution I’m sorry to say. It seems to be a “feature” of the SB.

So, I have a small update. I have tried to put the SB2 into hibernation mode, and not completely shutdown. I have noticed that when the SB2 is in hibernation, the detach button does not function. Anyway, I left the laptop overnight, and I powered it on in the morning and noticed there was only 1% battery change in battery 2 and not battery change in battery 1. I am not sure what to think of this, I will be leaving it 24h in hibernation mode to see if the battery gets drained or not. The interesting part is the fact that the detach button does not function while the SB2 is in hibernation. I am starting to think that the components draining battery while off are related to the detach function.
