Surface Book 2 battery drain whilst off

I don't know what the future has in store for me. I bought the Surface because I (thought I) needed a machine with good computational power and decent battery life for university. The Surface has the computational power, but not the battery life. I am close to the end of my studies, and probably in my work life after school I won't need to rely on the battery any more, or not as much as now, since I believe I will have easier access to power outlets (which my Uni is sorely missing). In addition to this, during the COVID lockdown I'm studying from home on my desktop PC, so I currently have no need for a laptop.

I really don't know whether and when I will need a new one. However, it is unlikely that I will buy a Surface ever again.

My SB2 is working well as well, except it can also drain more than 10% per hour. I figured I can probably get around 10 hours of usage while doing school work. 

Since my SB2 is the base model 13inch, i5, 8GB ram with only UHD integrated gpu, and I have only been using it lightly ever since the battery drain started. 

Thus my battery cycle is less than 60 for both batteries with battery 1 still at 100% capacity and 99% for battery 2 according to the diagnostic test results. 

I just don’t wish to see bloat batteries that is caused by the battery drain from SB2 in the near future like some of the current SP4s (my warranty has also ended). Hence, I have been actively looking for a solution. 

(I actually upgraded to SB2 from SP4). 

Maybe there is really no solution given that SP7 also suffers from some battery issues. 

Just one important question for now:

what will your next laptop be and does other brands of laptops suffer the same fate?

Hi everyone, I have been a silent reader of this thread for months. I was quietly waiting to see if anyone manage to find the solution to the battery drain problem.

Like most of you here, I have searched and tried almost every single suggestions available online to stop the drain. 

So far, I have already reinstalled Windows 10, ran SurfaceDiagnosticToolkit, disabled Connected Standby, always perform full shutdown and the close/detach options. 

Some of the suggestions was useful only for the first two nights, then the drain came back to haunt my SB2. 

Thus here I am back to searching for new solutions and back to this thread. 

Reddit users have advised to just use hibernate mode instead of shut down to slow down the drain.

So, how is everyone's SB2 doing now?

I seriously hope that this can be fixed or this will be my last Surface device.. sigh.

This thread is not related to the battery drain while the computer is asleep, it's about the power drain when the pc is completely shut off, please read the thread before posting

Hey Guys, this sort of fixed it for me. Use to lose 50%+ in 4 hours of sleep. Now I lose about 20% in 9 hours. not great but not bad just for nights i want to close my laptop before i sleep but if i every need to turn off computer for extended time period, i would just recommend you shut it down. 

click windows button.

type regedit

open registry editor

Navigate to this path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power

Click CSEnabled.

Make the value 0.

Restart your computer.

Connected Standby sucks! Drains all the battery. Also turning off fast startup in your power settings may help as well!

You wont be able to see some settings anymore in your power settings but don't worry. I think its worth having peace of mind that you won't wake up to a dead computer.
