How to press the <Insert> key when it's not there?

While a bit of a kludge, leave your window active, click the window key to the 'Start' panel.  Drag top or bottom to expose All Apps and open it.  Drag all the way right to the ease of use section and it's On-Screen Keyboard.  Open it.  Drag from the left edge to expose your app.   Insert is middle of the right side of the kb.  Pause is there too (window +Pause is one of my favs... with no pause key on other easily access kbs on the Surface)

Hi, that's a nice and very useful way to do it! And it sounds worse than it is, as the onscreen keyboard can then be minimized to the task bar and brought up whenever needed (even in full size as it passes the keystroke to the active application).

And it's really a full keyboard as far as I could tell, not the reduced versions you get in tablet mode. I wasn't even aware this existed (still new to Windows 8.1 and Surface).

The other thing this brought to my mind was that at least at home/office I can use any keyboard around, bluetooth or USB, so I just picked up my Logitech bluetooth keyboard (full size) and used that when in an application where the special keys are required.

By the way, I still think MS should make these keys accessible from both the Type/Touch cover keyboards and the "normal" onscreen keyboard!

Thank you George.  I just ordered my Surface, and was EXTREMELY disappointed not to have an insert key-I use it all the time for Logmein.

Ridiculous as this oversight is by microsoft who have really done a good job on the surface but spoilt it with some schoolboy errors.....all the keyboard ones can easily be worked around using autohotkey... you can remap whatever you need
