I'm glad to have found this thread as I've been having the same exact issues as XLsiorMedia - trying to get my SP3 to connect to my Samsung TV (UN60H6350AFXZA). I run into the same issues with the TV & SP3 trying to connect but eventually timing out.
Funny thing is, I just reset my SP3 not too long ago and had I known this issue existed, I would have tested screen mirroring BEFORE re-installing all updates, specifically the latest 9/9/14 update.
Oh well, looks like this is a dead-end for now. I might look into getting a netgear PTV3000, but I’m not excited about adding another device to my tv. I already have a chromecast to handle mirroring certain iOS apps (Netflix and HBO Go) + web page video
streams (via the chrome browser extension) and this pretty much satisfies my needs. The only thing left to do was mirror the SP3, wirelessly, so I was very excited to see/hear screen mirroring was possible. Honestly, this isn’t super important as I’d probably
wouldn’t use a 60” tv as a second monitor, but it would be nice to stream/mirror Xbox video, games, photo, and other apps from the SP3 to the tv – again wirelessly, as I know this can be done hardwire via HDMI (mini-display port to HDMI adapter).
