Surface Pro 3 does not connect to recent Samsung Series 7 TV

I checked on the website and the Surface, Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 are certified. Doesn't look like the Surface Pro 3 is listed as certified. My tv only works with certified Miracast devices :)

Ironically Samsung state similar in regards to certification.

From a product perspective Miracast isn't explicitly mentioned by Samsung, probably due to Miracast being only one of the technologies used in the AllCast technology (e.g. DLNA)

Which mountain is going to move and make efforts to sort it? its a question of sales rational, do samsung customers by TV's to work with the SP3 or do MS customers buy the SP3 expecting them work with most tv brands.

Of course this would all be a side issue for me if my Xbox One supported miracast, then it would be a happy Microsoft union and all would work (let's call that the 'Apple philosophy'). Unfortunately the miracast capabilities shown during the Xbox One promo isn't going to make it through into the firmware, as it is now being said the hardware doesn't support it. Though an Xbox is probably too expensive to consider if the sole use is an adapter.

Luckily there is the Microsoft display adapter, at least one part of MS is listening to what the customer wants, albeit with an associated cost. However, this isn't available in the UK as of yet.

So as far as i can conclude, MS isn't really behind the technology and is rigidly sticking to it's interpretation of Miracast. My Surface Pro 1 worked with my 7 series, it failed and i bought a Pro 3. My Xbox One was meant to have the technology, however this has been dropped. The Surface Pro 3 claims to have the technology, however it appears it is pot luck (given how many tv's haven't applied for certification). The MS adapter isn't available here, so not really committed to giving back up options in the UK.

I'm not holding my breath for a feature previous gen's had, to be reinstated to the current gen. Let alone have the fault acknowledged as an issue.

I gave up waiting for a solution from MS and have returned the SP3. I am unlikely to ever purchase another of their tablets until I start seeing less problems with them.

What brand / model of UHD tv are you mirroring to?

This is encouraging that SOME Surface tablets < are > working.

It has been suggested that I might need to upgdate a driver for the Surface video card --- but if that was the  case ... how can it put the Start screen on the tv for even one second?

That's the puzzling part in some ways.

IT DOES WORK FOR ONE SECOND and then stops.

If it absolutely HAD to have an adapter to make it work --- the Start screen would NEVER appear on the tv at all.

This morning I took a brief video and a still shot showing the Start Screen on the TV and will try to get them posted to Photobucket so I can link to them here. Don't think we can directly embed / link videos here.

Oops I'm wrong ... here is the still shot. You can see the Sony says it is mirroring the Surface and lower down on the left it says Scene select: General === that comes from the Sony and the start screen is very clear and sharp. I forgot to focus the camera but it worked well enough I think.

Without Miracast certification there is no "guarantee" of compatibility. That means it MAY work with some devices but not others. If you have a Miracast Certified device and are running a version of the device firmware certified by the wifi alliance, as opposed to a newer/older uncertified firmware version, I can possibly send in that information to some folks at Microsoft.

Bottom line is that without certification, connectivity results may vary.
