Surface Pro 3 does not connect to recent Samsung Series 7 TV

Responding to Barb so everyone else will hopefully see this.

On the Samsung site, it's spelled out that Mirroring may not work if the screen resolution is not 1024x768. It doesn't exactly word it that way but if you change the Surface Pro 3 screen resolution to 1024x768 and then try to mirror, you will be pleasantly surprised. Didn't test DLNA connection but wouldn't work at 2160x1440.

What Microsoft should do is update the Video software to remember that screen 2, in this case the mirror, needs to be 1024x768. It's not, it's trying to project 2160x1440.

I hope this helps some, it solved it for me. But what a pain to have to make the resolution change!

Thanks for the update - will NOT purchase after your review + reading the other threads about all issues with this adapter. Never, if there are bugs present. I have HDMI adapter instead.

My conclusion is that SP3 can most probably only connect to TV via HDMI if I want something that works without issues.

I almost feel sorry for Microsoft, because whoever signed off such poor connectivity on this otherwise high-powered device, has done them a huge disservice. Especially just as they have been making a good effort at gaining back some lost ground to Apple and the explosion in mobile in general.

Does the adapter work as expected - flawless and without issues?

Ok, so I got the adapter from Microsoft listed above, and no it does not work flawlessly. However it does work.

The two problems I have, which are pretty much universal are.

1. As mentioned before the TV does not automatically switch to the HDMI input when I connect my SP3 like it would if using the build in option. This is too bad, but not a deal breaker at all for me.
2. There is currently a bug that has been there for all of January as far as I can tell, where the resolution on both screens drops to 1366 x 768 instead of the expected 1920 x 1080 when connecting to miracast. However this is "solved" by not having any Bluetooth devices connected.

Ps. The pen still works without Bluetooth enabled, just the button at the end to open one note, does not. And I have still not found the keyboard shortcut to toggle Bluetooth on and off.

I'm sorry, I have to disagree with this.

Since a Firmware update from Microsoft, my SP3 works on my Samsung 6400H.

Sometimes it won't- restarting the TV makes it come good.

The SP3 is capable of outputting Miracast to a TV. It seems that there is some question as to WHICH TV's. Perhaps because of Microsoft, but also perhaps because of other manufacturers.
