There is no GPS on the Surface. It uses location services based on the internet connection.
Does Microsoft Surface have GPS?
Simple question, cannot find the answer. A couple of websites states that GPS is there, however I find nothing on www.surface.com. The website that state that GPS is there have said that since june and I don't know how they would know?

As it's a WiFi only device, there is no GPS, but it does have location services as part of the operating system.
Hi,
Surface for Windows RT does not support an external GPS device such as the one you refer to.
Surface for Windows RT can look up your location based on WiFi signals in your vicinity, as long as the Surface is also Internet-connected. Apps such as Maps or Weather, or web sites through Internet Explorer, can use this information.
Hope this helps
Hello Myron,
Surface RT does not have GPS, however it does have Location Services which allows certain programs to know your location based on IP address.
Was there a specific app you needed to use with GPS?
Best regards.
Hi,
Another thread about GPS with Surface.

2013-01-27T00:26:02+00:00 Same issue. Almost went out and bought a Surface today until I found out the lack of Cell connectivity & GPS capabilities. I have been waiting to switch from my iPad 2...had the iPad 1 originally. Hate the Apple for the fact there is no USB, Card Reader slot, or capabilities to manipulate files from other devices. Nor does it have Hot Spot capability so I can WiFi a PC laptop thru it. I do on the road photography and need those capabilities, I carry a iPad and a PC laptop. I am a Windows PC user and never cared for Apple. But the iPad (Cellular version) gives me great GPS Navigation. If you haven't used it, you have no idea how great it is. Especially when driving. The display is easy to view without being a danger while driving. I think they missed the boat with the current Surface. They should have made it Cellular. It would have done everything we PC people wanted. If Apple ever designs a Hot Spot capability on their iPad so I can WiFi my Laptop PC to it, look out Surface. If someone creates a device that does it all....that is where I will be. Tired of carrying 2 devices. Neither have gotten it right yet.
