I'm having the same issue and quite annoying in meetings with people waiting for you to boot up a $2500 laptop.
Anyone having issues powering on their Surface Book 2?
I am having issues the past couple weeks powering on my Surface Book 2 via the power button. It does not respond unless I eject the tablet half from the base and then press the power button. No setting or software changes except the Surface firmware update for Meltdown/Spectre a couple weeks ago. I'd say 1 out of every 5 attempts of me powering on results in a hard reboot and losing everything I had open. This is extremely frustrating! PS. I typically hibernate my PC. Would be great to hear from others that have applied the latest firmware and hibernate, if possible.

2018-02-01T13:29:16+00:00 Hi,
This can be software or hardware driven issue. Here are some solutions you can try:
Force shutdown your device
- Press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds and then release it.
- Press and hold the volume-up button and the power button at the same time for at least 15 seconds and then release both.
The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least 15 seconds. 3. After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds. 4. Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. You should see the Surface logo.
Clean the connectors on your Surface Book
If you're using a Surface Book, try cleaning the connectors between the Clipboard and the keyboard.
- Detach the Clipboard from the keyboard.
- Clean the pins on the connector with a pencil eraser. Rub the eraser back and forth across the pins.
- Wet a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol. Clean the pins on the long, narrow part of the charger that you plug into your Surface. Rub the cotton swap back and forth across the pins. After you are done cleaning the connector pins, make sure that the pins are dry, and then reattach the Clipboard to the keyboard.
Install the latest Surface and Windows updates
To install the latest updates, click on this link.
Also, detach the Clipboard from the keyboard and try turn the device on. Check if the issue only occurs when the keyboard is attached.

Thanks but none of that worked. I have found some posts online of other SB2 users having the same issue after applying the latest firmware. Therefore, I highly doubt its specific to my hardware, and Windows would not have anything to do with it because this is happening pre-boot. I am really getting sick of reaching out to tech support and their recommendation being hard reset and bring device to store for replacement for pretty much each technical issue which I know is not specific to my device or installation. I guess Microsoft does not believe in having their engineers investigate things. Methinks someone on the Surface team should grab a SB2 13.5 16/512 with latest windows updates and firmware and test!
