Surface Pro 7 Overheating when charging

So I've purchased and exchanged 3 brand new surface pro 7s in the last 20 days from best buy because of this issue. Everytime I plugged in the charger, within 5 mins, the backside of the Surface pro 7 starts overheating to an uncomfortable temperature. This was the case for the last 2 Surface Pro 7s as well. Their respective lot number was 1945 and 1943. I'm beginning to wonder if this is an issue with this particular batch ... Is there any answers for this?

    This is not the place to talk to MS about it. this is a forum to help users. I'm annoyed, though installing the new may 2020 update through the insider system (just wait a few weeks if you don't know what that is) seems to have resolved it for me! I've had proper fast charging and no issues since installing it. 

    THAT BEING SAID IF YOU WANT TO TALK TO MS ABOUT THIS ISSUE OR ANOTHER ONE THERE IS A FEEDBACK HUB APP IN YOUR START MENU. that is where you can send info and issues directly to MS' developers. Give it a go!

    Oh no, they ask you to update your software.  Mine was up to date , being the unit was only 2 days old. If you send it in for warranty i have been warned that you get a refurbished one back. There are no refunds from our local micro store where we purchased it. So basically we got screwed twice. One by microsoft who know that this is an issue and secondly by our retailer. 1800.$ plus to have to keep a crappy piece of technology.

    Microsoft has a no questions asked return policy for the first 30 days. it's listed online and in store and adhered to.  Install the new update in a few days and see how it goes. if you want it now,

    1. open settings on your pc
    2. update and security 
    3. windows insider program
    4. enroll your pc and select that you want the release preview
    5. you'll have to reboot throughout this process when prompted
    6. come back and manually check for updates
    7. select to download and install Feature update to windows 10, version 2004
    8. let it download and install. this will require a reboot.

    9 GO BACK INTO THE WINDOWS INSIDER SECION FROM #3 AND ENABLE STOP GETTING PREVIEW BUILDS. this will put you back into the regular stream of updates. 

    I do not work for MS, I'm just offering suggestions that have worked for me.

    So good to see that I'm not the only one with this problem. With 1909 the temperature doesn't even change so much when plugged in for me (from 30-45°C to 55-80°C, mainly being in the range of 55-65°C with the cable plugged in). The same issue occurs when charging via different USB-C docking stations (tested Dell D6000 and Targus Dock190). 

    Much more remarkable is the clock speed.

    Without external power: 1.2-1.3GHz

    With external power: 2.8-3.1GHz

    The clock speed for me explains the heat, the fan noise and the slow performance because it's busy with some other **** - don't know what, maybe USB CRC correction.

    I'm currently installing 2004 via insider and will report if that helps. Thanks for the good advise here.
