Surface Pro 7 Overheating when charging

I didn't use any 3rd party accessories with my SP7. I was only using the surface type cover and surface pen. I absolutely love the Surface Pro lineup. Currently have a Surface Pro 6 and Surface Laptop 3. It's interesting that the Surface Pro 6 doesn't experience the same heating issue as the 7. I imagine it's a result of the fast charging feature. My SP6 would perform better than the 7 after prolonged periods of heavy tasks, I imagine because it's not thermal throttling. I really wanted to keep the 7, but considering my 6 performs better in some cases, it wasn't worth the additional cost. I'm hoping the SP8 will have these issues resolved, or that they'll be able to really optimize the SPX's 64-bit emulation software.

I found I could not have a cover that fully covered the back of the device while it was operating. Also, I could not leave it on and close it (while closed my cover goes flat on the back) and/or place it in a carrying case with no air circulating.
Since purchasing a different cover (which allows air to flow on the back while propping it at an angle) and turning it off when closing it for a prolonged period of time, I have not had further issues.
I really like the surface pro and I needed this size, weight with enough functionality for my photoshop app etc and a touch screen so I deal with it, it's a bit of a pain to be this careful but at least I found a workaround for my particular device.

I just recently returned my SP7 due to this overheating problem. I also monitored the CPU temps, which are technically safe in the 60C - 70C range, but the back of the device becomes incredibly hot and uncomfortable to use. I was concerned with the long term effects of this excessive heat so I ultimately returned mine.

Now here is something that may help, maybe?

I had an overheating issue when charging via USB-C since I purchased the Surface 7 PRO in December. The back of it would get above 50 centigrade every time and then take ages to cool down. I was not much bothered with it as was not using it excessively. Now, in June 2021, I had some issues with adding my daughter account to the Surface and after fighting with account recovery etc. I decided to reinstall the windows. So I did the recovery, told it to download a new version from the Internet and.... it no longer heats up as much as before. I can still feel the heat but it's at 34 centigrade. So far so good.

Can anyone confirm similar behaviour?

Surface pro 7 i5 ....  gets throttled down to 0.4Mhz,  due to thermal  throttling

Its overhyped notes taking device.

Regret not buying apple M1. 

Windows 10 is very polished OS, but hardware is an afterthought
