The may update did resolve my overheating issues, though I did sell my surface pro as I couldn't stand the terrible battery life anymore.

So I've purchased and exchanged 3 brand new surface pro 7s in the last 20 days from best buy because of this issue. Everytime I plugged in the charger, within 5 mins, the backside of the Surface pro 7 starts overheating to an uncomfortable temperature. This was the case for the last 2 Surface Pro 7s as well. Their respective lot number was 1945 and 1943. I'm beginning to wonder if this is an issue with this particular batch ... Is there any answers for this?

2020-08-11T17:22:24+00:00 I purchased my 7 in October 2019. Within a month it started doing the overheating business and continues to this day. I am currently downloading version 2004 in hopes that it will solve my issue as well. If it doesn't then I think with all of the complaints you would think Microsoft would own up to this and give us all a solution. Unless they have no idea what is going on, then that is a big issue! I just hope someone does not get hurt by the system overheating and explode or burn their hands. Now Microsoft can you please help us!

2020-08-11T16:45:56+00:00 I just bought a new Surface Pro 7 and had this horrible overheating on first use-felt like I burned my fingers :-( I checked for updates on four consecutive days and finally on the last day Windows updated to the newest version and I happy to say the problem has completely gone. And my Surface Pro 7 is fantastic....my fingers are just still a bit sore.

I bought mine in Feb 2020 and it's an i5 not even the i7 ... still working on being able to budget to try the Dell XPS... and I may just go back to an Apple... I went with the MS Surface because of the ease of using MS Office Suite with it. with Apple the one problem I had their customer service took care of it quickly without asking me for a fee to consider the question I had... I'm just so disappointed... I saved so long for this MS Surface and all the add ons.. and had such high hopes.. not only that.. I have no idea how I got an (i5) model when I purchased in Feb of 2020 and was told it was the new one - which now I see should mean it was an i7 - ugh once again.. Microsoft disappoints..

Great! Look for 2020 model. They have 2 in 1 version with 14" and 15". I'm looking for the 14" model since it is more portable.
Btw, I thought of attaching this image show you guys, how I'm dealing with the heat issues of Surface Pro 7 (i7) model. (the latest model as of today). You can see I'm using a small fan behind the Surface Pro so that it always stays cool. :)
Can you imaging, how silly this is specially for a premium product which comes at a cost of $2500 almost (with keypad, mouse and pen). Shame on Microsoft.
