Surface Pro 7 Overheating when charging

Just tested it. It helps but is not the solution. CPU load is then at 9-30%, temperature between 40-45°C and clock speed at around 1.3GHz with Outlook, some browser tabs and some low load applications open. Not bad but even though the fan is a lot more quiet, it is still running and it's still more quiet without the charger connected

Has anyone of you used the SP7 together with a USB or USB-C docking station?

I tried Dell D6000 and Targus Dock190. While the SP7 is charging via USB-C, the USB connection seems to be impacted by either the high CPU or the charging flow of electricity itself. The symptom is that the docking station all of a sudden, even after a few minutes of being connected behaves like it got unplugged and reconnected, even though the USB-C plug is left untouched. This connection reset is particularly annoying when being in a Skype / Zoom / Teams call and the headset connected via the docking station. Furthermore, a keyboard connected to the USB docking station either does not transmit certain key presses or transmits them dozens or hundreds of times. The latter typically ends up with lines full of one letterrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr (letter) or the worst is when this happens with the backspace key and entire paragraphs are deleted.

The same behavior occurs when connecting the docking station via USB-A and having the surface charger connected. I wonder if anyone else has witnessed this problem with the Surface Pro 7 in this context of high CPU (clock rate) when power connected. A solution would be even better. Thanks

45C is where it is supposed to be. That's perfect. 

Something odd might be up with your windows, might do for a reset. My May update took about 20 minutes i5 8GB

Mine has been working perfectly since the update.

I have the exact same problem with my Surface Pro 7 i5. Could you please tell me if 2004 update solve the issue? It seems that we all have one and the same problem with overheating, so probably I have to contact Microsoft... As I can see as well i7 modification have same issue nevermind that is with fan cooling.

Microsoft has a no questions asked return policy for the first 30 days. it's listed online and in store and adhered to.  Install the new update in a few days and see how it goes. if you want it now,

1. open settings on your pc
2. update and security 
3. windows insider program
4. enroll your pc and select that you want the release preview
5. you'll have to reboot throughout this process when prompted
6. come back and manually check for updates
7. select to download and install Feature update to windows 10, version 2004
8. let it download and install. this will require a reboot.

9 GO BACK INTO THE WINDOWS INSIDER SECION FROM #3 AND ENABLE STOP GETTING PREVIEW BUILDS. this will put you back into the regular stream of updates. 

I do not work for MS, I'm just offering suggestions that have worked for me.
