Per Barb's suggestion, I had re-installed the battery driver, and as I have promised, I am posting the following observations after a few rounds of charge/discharge cycles:
Immediately after re-installing the battery driver, Batteryreport reset the battery state to 100% at what it thought was maximum capacity, 34,290 mWh. (The theoretical capacity is supposed to be 45,000 mWh.)

During the first discharge, the % remaining reported by the battery icon was depleted at what I thought was a reasonable rate; however, the machine's power cut out at about 70% after about 2 hours of looping through Youtube in Edge. It simply lost power without first going to sleep.
In the following three charge/discharge cycles, Batteryreport reported very different capacities after the battery had been fully charged:

However, regardless of what the fully charged capacity was, in each round of discharge the machine always lost power after approximately 2.25 hours on YouTube only. The battery state reported by the battery icon (% remaining) basically had no correlation with anything at all. That means judging whether the battery is working correctly by using the battery state reported by the battery icon is useless. More importantly though, each time when the machine's power cut out, Batteryreport indicated the battery should have more than half the capacity left. On these three discharge cycles, the capacity remaining when the machine powered off were: 26,490 mWh, 23,480 mWh and 35,930 mWh. (Most interestingly, on the third discharge cycle, the power remaining when the machine powered off was exactly the capacity it had at full charge.) I think the numbers reported by Batteryreport are completely unreliable.
