Battery Drains While Shutdown

I have read many posts and made many attempts to correct this problem without any success.

I was traveling for 3 months and when I returned the battery was completely dead.

Also, each night since my return, the battery drains as much as 12% overnight while shutdown.

I have all MS updates but the problem continues.

Please advise.

    How old is your Surface totalloser1977?

    It's not your battery that's at EOL. A whole stack of Surface devices suddenly and simultaneously unable to retain charge while off is not a "your battery is at EOL.

    No, this is a Surface or Windows issue  ... yet another Surface issue.

    As I have said on many occasions, I am willing to provide my Surface to MS to facilitate analysis of this problem. It is not sufficient to reinstall everything, the problem to persist, and conclude you have to buy a new battery. This because you are installing exactly the same drivers and OS that are potentially contributing to the fault in the first instance. The logic just is not sound.

    This is a serious issue and it requires an Engineering assessment.

    Hello Tim,

    I agree my batteries 'lifespan' is definitely not the issue.

    My Surface was in its sealed original packaging in my Mum's spare room for over a year - while I was traveling. 

    I've hardly any run time on this battery. 

    There may be a fault with the battery but it's definitely not it's lifespan - I'm sure it's a software issue. As all these problems started after a large Windows 10 update several months back.

    Then changing software changed the batteries performance from not charging at all to charging. Losing charge once shutdown in 12 hours to 24 hours.

    I'm going to try:

    1- disable "connected standby"

    2- disable Intel Management Interface

    I read this on a 'non-official windows' help thread.

    And lots of people said it fixed the issue.  But I'll let you know Tim

    Hi, Barb.  Do I understand your post of 2/16/18 to mean that even in airplane mode, Windows will drain the battery when the PC is shut down?  I agree the benefit of connected standby is worth the battery drain in ordinary life.  But one month every year my Surface is in a place with only limited solar power and no available connection to anything else.  I may not turn it on for a week or more.  But I need it to remain available, and there is no practical way to charge it.  So if I understand your post, my only alternative is to edit the register before I go there and then undo the register edit when I return.  Is that right?
