Battery Drains While Shutdown

I have read many posts and made many attempts to correct this problem without any success.

I was traveling for 3 months and when I returned the battery was completely dead.

Also, each night since my return, the battery drains as much as 12% overnight while shutdown.

I have all MS updates but the problem continues.

Please advise.

THX! :)

    Guys..

This is my 2 cents worth.

It's frustrating. I purchased my Surface Pro 4 in May 2017.

It was a new unit and I was excited with it. Soon enough I realized that there was a serious flaw with the Battery Drain. I began to check and the Q&A went back as far as 2014 as I can see. Could be further back though. Same Q&A. I also tried all those suggestions given. NOTHING seems to work. So I am totally disappointed.  I'd probably just cut my losses and move on with another  brand. Sadly this series is NOT a thumbs up for me.

But I must say that I am very pleased wit ALL the other features available. It's only the battery drain thing. I cannot predict when I will be left high and dry and that is not good.

    Sad Customer.

    Brian E.

Two levels of sad - a) the fact it happens, and b) the fact we are just talking into the wind. What's the point of having these comments and forum boards when Microsoft doesn't give a ****?

I have tried everything and thought I finally figured it out. But alas, the real issue is that the Surface Pro 4 does NOT shut down or hibernate properly. Even when I give it a few minutes before closing the keyboard (which I've changed in options to do nothing to ensure it doesn't interfere with the shutdown or hibernate process which I trigger using the windows menu).

Every time I shut down and get home, take my laptop out of my bag, the laptop is red hot because it's still ON.. that's despite SHUTTING IT DOWN and watching the screen go black and the keyboard lights go off before putting it into my bag. Something is seriously wrong. If the laptop stays ON in any form (background, sleep mode, or failed shutdown / hibernate) the battery will drain.

Someone at Microsoft has clearly f'd up the shutdown sequence and and is forcing the machine to ignore the user's intentions of switching it off - coz lord knows, what does the average user know? why allow the user to determine if the laptop needs to be switched off.. Microsoft engineers in their infinite wisdom have clearly determined that if there's some weird unknown background process that needs to continue, that this should override the shutdown process and negate a true shutdown. Nobody should have the ability to shutdown their own laptop - only a Microsoft engineer has that right.

User experience and customer-centricity comes a far second to the engineering needs. This is an epic fail, and the lack of response and resolution is just a big **** mess.

The competition is going to catch up, and as soon as a reasonable alternate brand comes up with a surface alternative, I'm changing brands.

Microsoft, you always come so close and then just completely drop the ball. It's like you really want to be second to Mac in terms of customer experience. You're just too big and important to give a crap about customers.

    It is same  to me.

Sometimes when I shutdown, close the keyboard and back home, the Surface was hot and out of battery.

I think there is cause of Shutdown progress.

A lot of people are facing the same problem since last year but Microsoft keep ignoring all these. All the update that so called stabilize the battery is useless and make the device hotter and drain faster.
