Battery Drains While Shutdown

I agree with you, dh055. I hope MS will (again) get punished by Consumer Reports by listing Surface products as not recommended. Two SP4 I've had - both lemons. I've had 4 ThinkPads and 3 MacBook Pros - no issues.

I am less and less.surprised about things like this, frankly.  The bigger a company gets, the more indifferent they seem to be about customer issues.  In this case, they are probably weighing the cost of a large recall against the slim probability of a class action suit, and rolling the dice.  

Back in the early days they walked all over IBM when they opted to develop software rather than hardware, and they are probably regretting their departure from that decision.  

Their lack of support seems to point to a retreat from this venture.  Lenovo, HP, and others are a better bet at this point.

I charged my SP4 fully, turned it off (with the 'fast startup' option off) and after 120 hours being off, the battery charge decreased down to 65%. I performed the battery-report test and the test did not show any activity during these 120 hours. Thus, it appears that the issue is related to a hardware problem. This is a replacement unit given to me by MS in March this year, and the unit was new (according to the MS agent I talked to). However, since the warranty on the original SP4 expired, MS does not want to fix the current battery-drain problem without a fee, despite the problem is related to a manufacturing error (I was told this by an MS agent, over the phone). However, I'm more surprised by the fact that no MS representative has actively been involved in resolving a battery-drain issue - if you go over previous posts, this is quite evident.

I have this same problem! Draining battery while shutdown. and it is always worm even when shutdown. until the battery is competly empty.

Evidently it is an hardware problem.

I just want Microsoft to tell us what could be the problem in the hardware, Because we may fix it ourselves by disassembly and replace the defective part.

Sadly, there has been no other response from Microsoft on this issue of battery

drain. it is clear from the posts in this forum that multiple customers have

this issue.

My emails to an internal contact on this issue have gone unanswered as well.
