Battery Drains While Shutdown

You may have seen my posts with this same problem - for me the battery drain is 100% within 24-48 hours.  I have edited my Registry as suggested, and I now use a "shutdown" command to ensure that all systems, including "standby" and "hibernate" are off.  \

Of particular note here is the many hundreds of Surface users who not only have the same problem, but complain of the same issue - that Microsoft is completely unresponsive to the issue after a few suggestions.  Scroll through the posts here and you will find dozens of pages of the same complaint, going back several years - and each complaint bears with it the frustration at Microsoft for their flat refusal to acknowledge/address the issue. 

My belief is that this is a defective battery, and that someone at MS has decided that a recall/replacement is more expensive than they'd like, and they are banking on the fact that we'll just give up on this.  They know that they will lose market share over this, but if they are able to keep things quiet, the loss will not be that great - and users will just buy a Toshiba, an HP, or a Lenovo instead; meaning that Microsoft will continue to sell software and encroach upon Apple's business.  However you slice it, it's a "win" for them. 

I have pretty much stopped contributing to this forum, and have turned my efforts toward notifying those who might get Microsoft's attention - PC Magazine and others who have a broad reach among users, who might be able to create a somewhat bigger stir than the paltry few who contribute here and beg for attention.  The BBB and Consumer Reports are also getting letters from me, along with links to (and an archive of) this very forum. 

It would not surprise me to see this entire thread deleted after a few days - which is why I have archived the entire thing. 

Defective products happen, and cannot be entirely controlled - but mistreatment of customers is shameful.

This is not the answer.  I did this several weeks ago and it does nothing.  

I use a command-line shutdown to force shutdown beyond any sleepstate or hibernation; my battery will still drain 100% within a day or two of being completely shut off.  

I have done everything suggested in this forum - including everything Microsoft asked me to do, posting my results as I go.  They have apparently given up.

Surface Pro 4 Sleep Study  Issue has been ongoing for at least one year.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Were you able to run a battery report - sleep study? If you haven't, follow the steps below to run the battery report: 

 

1. On the Search bar/Cortana, type cmd to search for the Command Prompt.
2. Press and hold or right-click and select Run as administrator.
3. On the Command Prompt, type po****wercfg sl****eepstudy.
4. Open the file location of the said report. (It will appear as sleepstudy-report.html) 

Kindly post a screenshot of the recent usage or at least one week of the report here. You may also upload the HTML file using OneDrive then share the link.

Yes, I did provide a sleep study report months back.  I never received any word back, my original thread was merged with an existing thread reporting the same problem, and this is the first I've had any follow up.

I have contacted MS in order to try to resolve the battery-drain issue (while the SP4 is off) and the lady I contacted was willing to replace the unit and sent a request to the repair division, which has declined the request. To me, this does not make any sense, and here is why:

1. I purchased a SP4 in Marcy 2016
2. The screen started making problems in early 2018 (pixel bleeding - quite a bit)
3. Since the unit was still under (extended) warranty, MS replaced the unit and sent me a new one (they claimed it was new)
4. The battery on the new unit started draining while the unit is off sometimes in September 2018
5. Despite the unit is less than one year old, MS does not want to fix the problem for free (they are asking $450 for a replacement unit).
6. Also, the original charger gave up after 1.5 years, which they replaced while the unit was under warranty

The question is: can we trust the quality of Surface products? Two of the units I've owned turned out to be defective, and what is the guarantee the 3rd one would be ok? I neither trust MS products anymore nor like the way they treat customers (it's not only what I wrote above, but - just look at the correspondence related to this posted topic and you'll see that MS does not even make any effort to help).

I have had 5 ThinkPads and 4 Apple comps (MBPs/iMac/MiniMac) and I have had issues with some of them, but both Lenovo and Apple have been very helpful resolving them, which does not seem to be the case with MS.
