Battery Drains While Shutdown

I have read many posts and made many attempts to correct this problem without any success.

I was traveling for 3 months and when I returned the battery was completely dead.

Also, each night since my return, the battery drains as much as 12% overnight while shutdown.

I have all MS updates but the problem continues.

Please advise.

THX! :)

It seems to me that this issue is well known and MS doesnt really care. They inundate you with requests for various tests etc. Then they blame you because the test doesnt have enough info. They should be testing and figuring out what the heck is going on. There is a bug and it is reported every where ...to many to count . A simple search tells you that the surface has issues with battery drain and especially when it is off ( aint that a kick in the head). It is very frustrating to pay so much for one of these other wise nice pieces of hardware to have it spoiled by  not being able to use it because you put it away and overnight your battery runs down.

I suspect a large fraction of the people who are having this problem have failing batteries.  It would be useful to know how old the machines are and how much of their life has been spent at full charge connected to external power supplies.

I have never used my SP4 on battery.  It remained issue free until the firmware update I received on Jan. 12.

Like the last time this happened, with my SP2, it was just after it went out of warranty.

I agree, with Russell Chandler.  I admit, I got good utility out of my now retired Surface Pro 4.  So I cannot complain.  But a fairly short explanation from Microsoft on the thing or things that cause this draining would go a long way to minimizing user frustration.
