Surface Pro 3 battery degradation

I've been using Microsoft Surface Pro 3 for a year, and shortly after the warranty expired I noticed my Surface Pro 3 can only last about 1-2 hours after a full charge. At first I thought this was a problem with background process draining the battery so I disabled everything running in the background. It didn't helped. Then I found out about the powercfg utility and run powercfg /batteryreport on it, and this was the result:

A full charge capacity has degraded by over 80% in just few weeks and continue degrading. I tried to "recalibrate" the battery by doing full charge then full drain multiple times, and it didn't helped. Talk with Microsoft via chat support and they insist this was a software problem and reinstalled the driver and asked me to wait few days to see if things improve. Not only it didn't improved, but now my Surface can only last 30 minutes.

Few days after chat (today), I called Microsoft support and they were being extremely unhelpful. Insist that this was a software problem (which the chat support person already did) and it's "perfectly normal" for battery capacity to degrade. I insist that I've already done the software "fixes" and it didn't work and tell them this is definitely hardware problem, but the person on the phone tell me there's nothing I could do except to order the out of warranty exchange (which cost about $560 in my local currency). 

Is there anything else I should do? My country has no Microsoft Store which I could take the machine for them to take a look. Phone/online support were the only option, and none of them could understand the issue.

Thanks for your continued patience here. We have now completed our testing of the update and it has passed our quality assurance process.

The update, “System Firmware Update - 8/29/2016”, is now available to install from Windows Update.

Before installing this update, ensure that your Surface Pro 3 is plugged directly in to AC power using the standard AC power adapter (do not use the Surface Docking Station), disconnect any USB devices or external monitors, and check that Windows shows a 40% charge or greater when you hover over the icon in the taskbar before you begin.

Once you install the update, please select Restart now (do not shutdown). After your Surface restarts, please manually restart it a second time to complete the process. For more information, please see our Surface Pro 3 Battery FAQ article.

    I also have this problem.  Surface Pro 3 purchased in March 2015, originally Windows 8 and upgraded to Windows 10 about 6 months ago.  Last 2 months the battery capacity has nosedived.

    What seems different in my situation is I always have the machine docked and the dock plugged into AC power (I use it as a desktop replacement - rarely use it on battery power) - and it will turn off after 4 hours now when docked as the battery is exhausted.  It only started doing this yesterday.  I have to then wait 20 minutes before I can turn it back on and get another few hours out of it, and repeat.

    The unit simply turning off when docked and plugged into AC power is annoying - I would have thought when docked it would not require the battery to have any charge.  I don't get any warnings about low power or anything - working away one second, the next blackness.

    I am also having this problem.  I remember when I got this Surface Pro 3 a little over a year ago and it was running Windows 8.  I can't remember if it was after an update or after I upgraded it to Windows 10 that the battery went form about 6 hours of run time to about 1.5-2 hours.  I would love to see a fix come out for this problem!  

    In the info below you can see how my battery at full charge is less than half of what it was designed to be.

    Hi Greg,

    My Surface Pro 3 won't run even a single second if not plugged in. If I remove the power cord from the Surface pro 3, it will simply lose power.

    I can't power it on without AC power.

    Battery status shows 

    Plugged in not charging (85%)

    After going through all the methods suggested by Microsoft it still didn't resolve the issue.

    I did a reset of the slate as a last ditch effort which reloaded 8.1, but the problem stayed with the same battery status shown earlier. Then I upgraded it to Windows 10, but the battery status didn't change.

    I obviously have lost any past battery usage report  due to reset, but the current status remains the same as before.

    Do you think it's a software issue only? 

    The machine has crossed warranty period.

    So I m at your mercy.

    But this is unacceptable.

    Here's my particular favorite from the battery report:

    I don't know how this is at all acceptable. I usually expect much better from Microsoft products. This should really be considered a top priority issue due to the number of people experiencing it and the impact (basically makes the device unusable).
