So, i also get this problem and for a very long time ive been trying to figure out what the problem is because its been BUGGING me. It only happens in one room, and at night. Not plugged in. (I have a surface book but same problem) Ive noticed that when it happens, the “safely remove hardware” icon pops up for a split second on the tool bar and then goes away. Every. Damn. Time. And its too fast for me to touch. Also, if you have the settings open for “Devices”, you will notice that “touchpad” will disappear and reappear. Anyone else see this happening? I can also walk out of the room and it stops happening. EXTREMELY annoying because i do a lot of school work in here. Im believing that its EMF interference. Only thing i can think of that has an affect in a certain area.
Surface Pro 2017 touchpad mouse freezing
I've got a new Surface Pro 2017 and today the mouse pointer being driven by the touchpad has started freezing for 1-2 seconds.
All the latest updates are installed.
I've removed the mouse from device manager and then ran Scan for new Hardware.
I've removed and re-installed the lastest Surface firmware package.
But it still does it, however it only seems to happen when the device is on power. It works fine on battery.
Any ideas?
Regards,
Greg

2018-12-29T14:10:26+00:00 Hello Mark,
Thank you for doing God's work here fighting to get a solution to this incredibly annoying glitch. I'm just reaching out to see if you have arrived at any sort of firm closure/solution?
Thank you!

2018-12-29T19:44:04+00:00 Well, FWIW, everything seems OK, for the time being at least. When I had the freezing glitch I was using a 3rd party, USB connected, freebie, company giveaway mouse. Since Christmas I have been using a Microsoft Sculpt Comfort Bluetooth connected mouse and so far no glitch. I will keep you posted on whether this very satisfactory state of affairs continues, or otherwise, at a later date.
BTW I am now running Windows 10 1809 OS Build 17763.195. installed on 15/12/2018. Maybe that's part, if not all, of the solution.

2019-01-01T21:02:23+00:00 I've also seen the issue. VERY preliminary testing, but here's what I've got:
Only affects the TypeCover trackpad. Replaced it for a new one, same issue.
When using a third party power adapter, the issue is frequent. When using the Microsoft branded adapter that came with my Pro 2017, I have no issues.

2019-01-08T01:13:12+00:00 I have the same issue. I just got a brand new Surface Pro on Friday, January 4, 2019. Fortunately I was able to quickly identify the problem as occurring only when the device is plugged in. I'm using the adapter from a late 2017 Surface Pro. I will try using the adapter that came with this new device and update. But it is absolutely clear that the problem only happens when plugged in.
