Surface Pro 2017 touchpad mouse freezing

I've got a new Surface Pro 2017 and today the mouse pointer being driven by the touchpad has started freezing for 1-2 seconds.

All the latest updates are installed.

I've removed the mouse from device manager and then ran Scan for new Hardware.

I've removed and re-installed the lastest Surface firmware package.

But it still does it, however it only seems to happen when the device is on power. It works fine on battery.

Any ideas?

Regards,

Greg

    Hi Mark,

Just to clarify, did the issue occur only after a recent update? Does your device gets hot when the issue happens?

Let us know so we can assist you further.

Intereting Mark, I only noticed it on mine later on at night. I'm usually on battery power but had plugged it in to make sure I had 100% battery for the next day.

The diagnostics made no difference to me either.

@ Microsoft Agent -- No the issue happened before the firmware update and now also after the firmware update.   Yes, the computer is warm when it does happen.  Could that have an impact?

Also, I was wondering if there might be Windows scheduled tasks that take place typically at that hour that might affect the mouse and only run when the machine is plugged in?

    @ gregh34

I have also read somewhere else that it might be an issue with the charger.  That is, it being defective or if the charger is close to another there could be interference that might make a difference. Interesting theory that I'm also trying to experiment with...

We appreciate your response. There should be no impact on the keyboard/touchpad itself when the device is warm and might as well when the machine is plugged in or on battery power.

To isolate the issue, have you tried to detach then reattach the Type Cover to see if there's any difference? Were you able to check or adjust the touchpad sensitivity?

    Hi,

I've removed and put back the type cover several times when the issue occurs.  It then works fine for a brief period then I get the same issue once again of the mouse pointer freezing.  So it's not a fix.

    Thanks,

    Mark
