Surface Pro 2017 touchpad mouse freezing

I've got a new Surface Pro 2017 and today the mouse pointer being driven by the touchpad has started freezing for 1-2 seconds.

All the latest updates are installed.

I've removed the mouse from device manager and then ran Scan for new Hardware.

I've removed and re-installed the lastest Surface firmware package.

But it still does it, however it only seems to happen when the device is on power. It works fine on battery.

Any ideas?

Regards,

Greg

Further update - removed all traces of Cover drivers and filters by installation and registry hacking. Removed drivers and downloaded fresh drivers. This seemed to fix things for a while. Then it came back. I've no turned off the illumination on the keyboard

    • which again seemed to fix things for a while. It has occurred since, but seems less frequent (famous last words). Profoundly irritating and inconsistent. I have not managed to find  way of consitently triggering it - or preventing it. It seems to appear more in the evening but isn't light dependent (thinking it might be pickup from the screen - varying brightness?). Temperature? Differing conductivity/capacitance of the fingers?

I havent had this issue since 4 months now. I dont know what fixed it? But lets try to eliminate some items. Do you have any bluetooth connections to a mouse?

    I feel your frustration !

I returned my 2017 Surface Pro to the retailer. Microsoft replaced it and the problem continued.

It was returned again and once again replaced only this time it came back with a 256 gb hard drive instead of the 128gb which i originally purchased !! Freezing problem has disappeared ( I have been using it for 2 months now ).

There was no explanation as to what was causing the problem but the fact that my Surface Pro has been replaced twice certainly confirms that they have acknowledged a problem exists.

Bottom line is that when it comes to my next laptop I will buy Apple since I feel that MS has badly treated thousands of customers worldwide. (Having said that, my iPhone XR is a joke after IOS 13 upgrade but that's another story and off topic !!! ).

    Hi All ,

*Weird* update here: My PEN was my problem.

Reading all the comments -- especially the part about how it only hangs when the power supply is plugged in -- made me wonder if there was another device interfering.

So, I pulled the battery out of my Surface Pen and the PRO7 worked flawlessly.

When I put the battery back in, the touchpad mouse becomes sketchy again.

    Hope this helps somebody.

    SR
