Surface Pro 2017 touchpad mouse freezing

I've got a new Surface Pro 2017 and today the mouse pointer being driven by the touchpad has started freezing for 1-2 seconds.

All the latest updates are installed.

I've removed the mouse from device manager and then ran Scan for new Hardware.

I've removed and re-installed the lastest Surface firmware package.

But it still does it, however it only seems to happen when the device is on power. It works fine on battery.

Any ideas?

Regards,

Greg

Update - replacement signature cover made no difference. I've also tried the latest advice in this thread. Cleaning contacts and removing/uninistalling cover drivers/filters has made no difference. I now have the signature cover on my Surface Pro 3 (i7) where the hesitation is slight, with the old Pro 3 cover on the Surface Pro 6, which seems to work fine.

The hesitation is simple to recreate. Just continually circle the cursor using touchpad and eventually it will lose focus - the cursor stops and you have to lift the finger to reengage.

I am reluctant to try replacing the Pro 6 as I don't want to have to reconfigure a new one. I've tried running in safe/restricted mode with all non-MS software/drivers diabled - no difference.

Any solution to this? I have Surface Pro 5. I have tried complete reinstall, cleaning connectors, updating drivers etc

The cursor will randomly freeze for a few seconds. This doesn't matter if I'm plugged in, or even if i'm using a mouse which leads me to believe it's got nothing to do with the keyboard touch pad

I agree. I have the Surface Pro 7 and it does the exact same thing you described: "cursor will randomly freeze for a few seconds. This doesn't matter if I'm plugged in, or even if i'm using a mouse which leads me to believe it's got nothing to do with the keyboard touch pad"

This is an update to my 11/10/19 post.

The random cursor freezing problem was not solved as I had hoped. Doesn't matter if I'm using the Type Cover trackpad or a Logitech mouse. Cursor randomly freezes for a few seconds before becoming available again. Since it is random it is difficult to provide an occurrence rate, but I'll say once every 5 to 15 minutes on average.

To be specific, uninstalling the "Surface Type Cover Filter Device" driver (Device Manager/Keyboards) and then rebooting the Surface causing Windows 10 to reinstall it did NOT fix the problem.

    gregh34,

    I'm with Mark.

Same issue; same resolution steps; same result. All drivers updated, or reinstalled and re-initiated.

Touchpad sticky/unresponsive -- but ONLY when it's plugged in. For now, I can workaround because the battery is so strong (it's a brand new Pro7).

    Seriously.

    Help.

    SR
