Surface Pro 2017 touchpad mouse freezing

I've got a new Surface Pro 2017 and today the mouse pointer being driven by the touchpad has started freezing for 1-2 seconds.

All the latest updates are installed.

I've removed the mouse from device manager and then ran Scan for new Hardware.

I've removed and re-installed the lastest Surface firmware package.

But it still does it, however it only seems to happen when the device is on power. It works fine on battery.

Any ideas?

Regards,

Greg

I have the same issue on a Surface Pro 6.  Brand new.  looking at this thread I believe it only happens when the Surface pro is charging.  when on battery and fully charged the trackpad appears to behave.

Feels like an issue when under charge.  charger is the Microsoft one that came with the surface pro 6.

This is very frustrating as I am now considering if I should replace the signature type cover, the surface pro or simply return both and buy an apple device.

Shame as I do like the SP6.

Any thoughts on if its worth trying to get replacements?

When you have the issue, I'd suggest trying to plug it into different outlets around your house if they are on different circuits and see if that solves it.  Or try it out in an entirely different location.  The issue only happens to me when I'm plugged in to one specific circuit and a certain sets of lights are on in my house -- so for me it's 100% related to some sort of EMF interference.  Someone here suggested trying to address it with an dirty electricity filter, and I might go ahead and do that.  I tried returning my power cable to Microsoft a couple of times (as well as the type cover AND the Surface itself) and that never solved the issue, but it seems like from this forum that this has worked for some people.   So might be worth a try as well.  Good luck.

My problem of the cursor freezing at random still persists. It has nothing to do with the circuitry of the house. Indeed, the problem is significantly worse on battery mode.

Why do we all persist in trying unconvential solutions to a problem which MS refuses to acknowledge ? In the absence of a fix, i will now be attempting a full refund and will look at Google pixelbook or Huawei Matebook as alternatives.

I replaced mine with a base macbook pro and am very satisfied. Any issue or bug can be presented and discussed directly at the apple store unlike MS because we dont have a store in Montreal. The fit and finish on the macbook is gold. However, my use case permits me to not have windows. Huawei are not supported by windows anymore and are blacklisted. I had a pixelbook once but sold it back because the chassis and OS felt weak. I do miss the pen input from the SP though. Having owned the pixelbook and SP5, you can ask me questions.

I finally bought an OEM charger and the problem, so far, appears to be a thing of the past.
