Surface Pro 2017 touchpad mouse freezing

I've got a new Surface Pro 2017 and today the mouse pointer being driven by the touchpad has started freezing for 1-2 seconds.

All the latest updates are installed.

I've removed the mouse from device manager and then ran Scan for new Hardware.

I've removed and re-installed the lastest Surface firmware package.

But it still does it, however it only seems to happen when the device is on power. It works fine on battery.

Any ideas?

    I'm going to try and use a bluetooth enabled keyboard/touchpad combo as a last resort. If this works, then the Signature Type Cover keyboard(s) will be returned. If not, the surface pro 7 gets returned and I search for something else....

    I am sorry to hear that. I have been following this thread for sometime time now alongside with other issues I had with MS lately to the point where I am canceling my future purchase of a surface laptop 3.

    Yes. Tried everything and have wasted so much time on this. There was a time when I would've said this was the best windows laptop/tablet device ever. Not so much now. Does MS know they have a real problem here? I depend on using the type cover touchpad....

    What I had noticed during my time with this issue is that ethernet/wifi/bluetooth/connection in the tab of Performance in the task manager would cap at 100% during the freeze. It could be both hardware and software related.

    Did you try and remove the pre-installed microsoft 365 using the MS tool and run the machine with no software (lean) installed on it?

    I have a Surface Pro 5 and following a MS update a week or so ago, the touchpad has been rendered useless. This is my primary mouse device. Thinking that my surface was getting old I ordered the latest Pro 7. The Pro 7 exhibits the exact same problem. I subsequently enrolled into the Windows Insider Program and am running Build 19608.rs_prerelease.200410-1438 and this release doesn't solve the problem. Microsoft has a fundamental problem in the driver/software they introduced and customers like me are now trying to figure out what we should do next. Refund and alternative????
