I am starting to think the sticky touchpad is related to electro-magnetic interference.
My other assumption, is static electricity and lack of electrical grounding on Surface Pros.
Details:
To confirm some people's observations, I do have more touchpad freezing when using any power supply while at my work-office. I have tried 3 different power supplies, including the heavy Surface Dock 2. I have fewer issues at my office when using battery
alone. I am doubtful that this is a Microsoft Windows issue with monitoring the charging process because I disabled the service "Power" & rebooted, but it might be a chip issue in relation to charging. Regardless, I still get stickiness issues on battery
alone while in the office.
Earlier in this topic chain, a person said that this sticky touchpad issue was not present at home, only at his work-office. I can confirm this for myself as well, much to my surprise, even when using the same power supply and resuming the same admin login
on the Surface Pro at home after leaving work. So, I was thinking, this surely must be a Windows Professional issue due to Group Policy or the servicing of network requests that only exist in the work-office, or maybe even "dirty power" at the work-office
that another person mentioned earlier. So, back to the work-office I went, and I used battery only & disabled the network adapters & resumed the same admin login I was using at home, but the sticky/locking/pausing mouse issue resumed at the work-office.
So, what conditions differ between home and the office?
There exists significantly more radio traffic in the work-office from many WiFi devices (yes, I had my WiFi adapter disabled), and likely much more electro-magnetic interferences from all the wiring in the office. For me, this is making the most sense as
to the sticky touchpad cause. It does seem like I have more touchpad freezing in different areas of the office building.
The other difference, was that, at home, I use a wood table and wood chair and have real wood flooring, while my office has staticy particleboard fake wood laminate flooring, my desk is laminate, and my chair is plastic+polyester+cotton+polyurethane. Don't
laugh yet. Laminate & polyester are notorious for zapping people with static electricity build-up & discharge. At my office, I do sometimes get notable shocks on my arm or hand. While those are very tangible zaps, consider how frequent that intangible static
discharges must be taking place. Now, consider that the Type Cover is on that desk and it minutely flexes repeatedly as we use the Type Cover, likely building up & discharging intangible static charges, in addition to what our fingers transfer from the desk,
floor & chair. Given the similar sticky cursor issue exists on old Dell laptops [1] and theirs being due to a supposed grounding issue, maybe Surface Pros suffer this grounding problem as well?
Unfortunately, I tried frequently shifting around in my seat, sliding my around on the floor, and sliding my Surface Pro with Type Cover back and forth as I used the touchpad, to see if I got more touchpad freezing, but it did NOT increase the frequency
of mouse stickiness.
