Surface Pro 2017 touchpad mouse freezing

I've got a new Surface Pro 2017 and today the mouse pointer being driven by the touchpad has started freezing for 1-2 seconds.

All the latest updates are installed.

I've removed the mouse from device manager and then ran Scan for new Hardware.

I've removed and re-installed the lastest Surface firmware package.

But it still does it, however it only seems to happen when the device is on power. It works fine on battery.

Any ideas?

Regards,

Greg

There is obviously a problem here for multiple users that firmware updates are not fixing. When can we expect a real fix for this? As I am typing this my mousepad keeps freezing and there is a huge delay to the keyboard response. Just checked to make sure the latest firmware is installed and still having issues.

    Thanks. Thats comprehensive.

I tend to agree with Roger. This problem is clearly something endemic in the Surface. this is not the only thread on the subject!

the power supply seems to be only one common denominator. my problems persist even when its not on charge. i have noticed that if im working on the cloud, an auto file save will freeze the cursor. If i use Edge as a browser it freezes more because there is so much ‘noise’ going on in the background.

it is definately worse on charge. And in some locations its worse than others, so the conditioning of the AC supply to the charger may be an issue.

NONE of these issues should be a problem to the user. It is a fault in the Surface that our various tweaks might help a bit but do not deal with the root problem.

MICROSOFT. DO SOMETHING BEFORE ROGER’S SUGGESTION OF A CLASS  ACTION TAKES HOLD!!

I also had this issue (more than 10 times a day) a couple of months back. Fortunately, I haven't had this issue for more than 4 months of using my Surface pro 5 i5 8gb with 256gb.

List of things that might have had triggered the solution:

1- I now mostly charge my surface pro using my docking station. The problem also doesn't show up when occasionally charging the surface with the OEM charger. The problem used to be more frequent when using an aftermarket charger bought from amazon. Today, I mostly let the battery drain before reaching the dock charger.

2- I rarely attach the pen to the surface.

3- I factory reset the surface once every month.

4- Bluetooth is most of the time turned off and was replaced with a Logitech USB dongle mouse. I had a Bluetooth connected mouse before when the issue was present.

5- Inking feedback settings is turned off.

6- Battery is always set on Best Performance.

    7- Brightness always on 100%.

I understand your frustrations. A year ago I gave away my surface pro to my younger cousin and got a macbook pro instead because I couldnt handle all the little nuances the surface had. Fast forward a couple of months and after using the macbook pro as my main, I decided to go back to my surface because how else can you appreciate something without it gone. Strangely, after taking the surface back, the mouse freeze issue was gone.

Go ahead and ask me questions about my configuration in case it will help you troubleshoot your triggering event.
