Surface Pro 4, Screen Flickering, Shaking

I purchased SP4 device a few months ago and it was working fine for a month. Then I noticed that when the CPU is at its max, the screen flickers a bit. Investigating further revealed that it flickers even if it is setting idle. It does not flicker if at least one of the following thing is done:

  1. A video being played in browser 
  2. If I keep the touch screen busy by either taping it or keeping a finger on it
  3. If I use the touchpad
  4. If keyboard is used for typing

This resulted in making the device completely unusable while reading articles or ebooks. I am a developer, most of the time I have to read the code and to do that, I have to constantly keep a finger on the touch pad or the screen. I contacted surface support in October and November and was told that the developers are working on the patch. Looking at the updates the developers are pushing since then, I don't think anyone is even aware of the problem there.

Just wondering if anyone else had the same problem (and the fix) and if not, what's the procedure for the refund? I will rather go for a mac then sacrificing $2000+ for a dancing screen.

    Yes, I am exactly in the same boat. We had three Surface Pro 4s, myself and both of my sons. They all had the same problem after three years, and we were never informed that MS recognized this as a HW failure. Had we been informed before the warranty ran out we would have gone for replacement. MS business practice is almost fraudulent - l

    Hello Microsoft,

    I have the same surface gate issue but I only realised later on that Microsoft acknowledged that it was caused by defective hardware and offered a 3 year window for users to get it fixed. unlucky people like me were not notified about this by Microsoft here in Hong Kong and I am stuck with a surface pro i7 16gb 256gb, its docking station and accessories which are now all useless.

    A repair which is going to cost me HKD 4702 / USD 600 to fix/replace under the Out of Warranty Standard Exchange Upgrade program. On top of that I am being told even if I pay this I will get a refurbished surface pro 5.

    So my question to Microsoft is - is it the right thing to do to make money from you loyal customers Twice? You very well know that the screens were faulty and now charge us USD 600 to get it fixed.

    I suggest you reconsider how you handle faulty hardware as your novel products aren't the only option for us consumers. We may have made a mistake once but the damage you have made to your reputation will not get me to buy another surface product.

    The sad part is I can't even give away this rubbish device now to a charity or school as the user can't even use this after 30 mins.

    It will be a miracle if this matter can be resolved in a reasonable way, which I doubt. I am sure there are many others like me around the world who are like equally stunned at how we have no option but to throw it into the bin.
