I upgraded to the Surface Pro 7 - 8gb, 256GB from the SP4 8gb, 256GB. My SP4 hardly got an hour of battery and would shut off on battery without warning, so I constantly had it plugged into the wall wherever I went. I was hoping for much better on the SP7. Currently I am struggling to get a full 5 hours...closer to 4 hours.
Yes, I know I use Chrome and Edge, a number of Office windows open, might watch some YouTube and Netflix.
4 to 5 hours seems pathetically small.
Any other comments, suggestions or comparisons? (I know there's a need to 'bed in' a new battery in, I've had the laptop almost 2 weeks now, the battery should be 'bedding' in by now.

ALL of the Surface Pro products have been affected by the poor battery issue for several years and Microsoft will not address the problem. I believe that if the solution was replacing the battery you would not continue seeing NEW posts on the latest Surface Pro 7s. The reply I received from a MS moderator was that they were aware of the issue... Making things worse, they continue to advertise long run-times while on battery.
Microsoft is misleading consumers.
If you search "new edge" you'll find the new version, and can download it from Microsoft - it's much leaner, and appears to drain less battery in use.
So I stopped using bluetooth (Surface mouse!!!) and installed the new Edge Chromium, and I'm getting much better battery life - around 7 hours now.
which version of edge. the one that comes with the unit or one you install yourself. Please provide details.
The battery is not difficult to move around and fits in a standard surface case. I have had mine for 4 years. It rechardges surface completely from start to finish at least 2X.
