Hi Everyone,

Has anyone been seeing intermittent Event 4101 "Display driver igfxn stopped responding and has successfully recovered" on surface laptop 3?

Tried all the surface diagnostics tools - all clean. Uninstalled device, reinstalled. - no joy.

Not had the laptop that long so not sure if updating to the latest surface firmware is the cause.

Not sure where to go from here. It happen maybe once every few days of constant use - very brief display blanking then recovers.

Is this a driver issue with the latest intel build? Or hardware issue? Nothing else wrong with the laptop.

How do you known it is a hardware issue and not a software?

For me it is a software issue, maybe Windows or Intel driver or firmware/bios of the Surface Laptop 3.

I love this laptop, it is the only one issue with it and I think it will be fix quickly.

Well, mainly because surface support immediately told me to exchange my device after reset, and reinstalling from USB image with latest drivers didn't work. They in fact exchanged my device, so it's likely that it was a problem with my device.

I did some research and this problem can be either hardware or software related.

I also liked this laptop a lot. Apart from being worried whether the screen cracked, every time I opened it, it was great.

There are people on here that had this problem for more than 6 months, so good luck getting this solved quickly.

I was an early entrant into this thread and just his morning on my SL3, I got the 2004 update and so far it seems to have fixed it.

The disabling of hardware acceleration (Outlook Advanced Options) was a bandaid and while it prevented the hangs and crashes, it resulted in black boxes blocking out non-maximised office windows on a second screen so it was hugely frustrating for a €2000 machine.

But I think it's fixed in 2004 - I've had that version for over an hour now and not one crash when I could easily replicate it but clicking Outlook taskbar icon and then moving the mouse point fast (every time - guaranteed to cause a crash and igfx stopped responding in eventvwr).

    Fingers crossed
