Hi Everyone,

Has anyone been seeing intermittent Event 4101 "Display driver igfxn stopped responding and has successfully recovered" on surface laptop 3?

Tried all the surface diagnostics tools - all clean. Uninstalled device, reinstalled. - no joy.

Not had the laptop that long so not sure if updating to the latest surface firmware is the cause.

Not sure where to go from here. It happen maybe once every few days of constant use - very brief display blanking then recovers.

Is this a driver issue with the latest intel build? Or hardware issue? Nothing else wrong with the laptop.

Is there any news on this?

I was again in touch with support, but they just told me to reinstall the OS with a USB image, which I did and which of course didn't help.

Then I had some hopes for the new Windows 10 2004 update, which I installed recently manually, as the automatic update still hasn't come through. The manual update didn't work initially because of Onedrive!!!!!!!! I had to uninstall Onedrive first. It would be unimaginable for MS to consider the exotic and rare combination of Onedrive and Surface Laptop 3.

Anyway, the update still didn't resolve anything. Why is this so difficult for MS to fix?

    Thanks!

Had this same issue 5 times so far today.  It's happened ever since I got my Surface Laptop 3 i7 16GB 6 months ago.  Keep hoping that "this months updates" will actually fix it, but no...

    That is sad.

I just contacted MS support via Twitter, after having been in touch with support before, they told me they don't have any records on this problem. so I'd suggest that you all take this to @MicrosoftHelps so they can't pretend they haven't heard about this.

My support request got passed on and a day later they replied with the usual MS BS that I should exchange it, but they only offer refurbished.

At least it helped me in one aspect, which is that I will never ever purchase a Surface device. Thank you Microsoft!

Just to share: My support request got escalated, I got told by the customer rep that if this hasn't been resolved by factory resetting my laptop, then I have to return and exchange it. They also told me that they only exchange for refurbished laptops (my laptop is 1,5 months old). I said this is unacceptable. She just said she's sorry that she can't help me otherwise and that she is going to close my case.

I think Microsoft really has an incredibly bad service and this, for sure, is my last surface device.

I was already going to return my laptop to the shop where I bought it, but I'm a bit busy right now, so I put off until next week. However, last night I got a whole bunch of updates:

    1. Firmware
    2. Monitor
    3. net & bluetooth
    4. Intel system driver

I was working late and this problem hasn't cropped up yet. Don't want to be prematurely happy because this issue can be a bit sporadic. Can anyone else confirm whether these updates made any difference?

    Cheers!
