Hi Everyone,

Has anyone been seeing intermittent Event 4101 "Display driver igfxn stopped responding and has successfully recovered" on surface laptop 3?

Tried all the surface diagnostics tools - all clean. Uninstalled device, reinstalled. - no joy.

Not had the laptop that long so not sure if updating to the latest surface firmware is the cause.

Not sure where to go from here. It happen maybe once every few days of constant use - very brief display blanking then recovers.

Is this a driver issue with the latest intel build? Or hardware issue? Nothing else wrong with the laptop.

Having the same issue here Surface Laptop 3 i7 16GB 256GB - was happening on W10 Pro 1909 and still happening on 2004.

Update: I had the hardware replaced and the new unit (also running 2004 with latest updates as of 20/10/20) has the same issue :(.

Update 30/10: I'm also using two external screens with a surface dock issue occurs with both surface dock v1 and v2. I've been running with Outlook hardware acceleration disabled for the past 10 days an haven't had the issue occur since.

I have the same problem with my Surface Book 3: Display driver igfxn stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

It has persisted across all Windows 10 builds on my laptop, currently on 2004.

I had already installed 2004 on my SL3 before. I think I had to uninstall Skype for it to show up or something ridiculous like that. Unfortunately, it didn't solve anything for me. After a few hours it went straight back to before.

I think it's safe to say at this stage that this is a hardware problem. If it was a driver issue, it would affect much more users. It took them 2 days, after I sent in mine, to offer me a substitute. Luckily, I claimed a full refund via my retailer. In conversations with staff, I was told, unsurprisingly, that they had quite soe problems with returns and warranty claims for the SL3 and the Surface line in general.
