Hi Everyone,

Has anyone been seeing intermittent Event 4101 "Display driver igfxn stopped responding and has successfully recovered" on surface laptop 3?

Tried all the surface diagnostics tools - all clean. Uninstalled device, reinstalled. - no joy.

Not had the laptop that long so not sure if updating to the latest surface firmware is the cause.

Not sure where to go from here. It happen maybe once every few days of constant use - very brief display blanking then recovers.

Is this a driver issue with the latest intel build? Or hardware issue? Nothing else wrong with the laptop.

thank you Ajy401. I am seeing faults related to plugging and unplugging power supply too, are you seeing this too?

First PC laptop that I could not wait to give away to someone else AND the most expensive one I have ever bought *20 years*

    Disapointed

MS is clueless as this should be a recall

    Is anyone listening?

For the first time in 20 years looking at Apple laptops and writing this one off.

Has there been any update on this ????

    I have a similar problem, surface laptop 3 windows 10 pro 20H2.

when hovering over the outlook open windows in the taskbar, the screen freezes for 2-3 seconds and does it continuously until mouse cursor is moved from the outlook windows.. error code 4101 source display..

windows updated, Intel driver updated, surface driver updated. disabled hardware acceleration in outlook.. no joy !

Logged case with Microsoft, they suggested clean install. In clean install without outlook everything is fine.

Procmon shows call to aero peek okay. Then event viewer is called.

I have a video if anyone needs. also can recreate the problem any time.

Thanks to anyone who can help !!

The last weeks I had almost no issue anymore ... until a week ago. Don't know what changed, but during screen sharing meetings the screen regularly freezes, turns black, comes back on but still freezes my screen sharing and blocks my camera ... * sigh * Will this ever end??

My issues also seemed to happen more frequently in video meetings. Do you have Outlook open when these issues occur?

Try to Disable Hardware Graphics Acceleration in Outlook. I have not had a single issue in 3 weeks.

Others have tried this and haven't had any success. It has helped in my case.

I have same problem. I thought updating with latest windows OS may resolve - but no use. My laptop is bought just 2 weeks back. :(

I hate to reformat the machine specially considering it's setup newly. Also, not sure if this will help. Any help?

I have had a support case open with MS for quite a while. They also wanted me to do a reformat. Failing that they were going to replace the machine. I resisted thinking this is more of a software related issue.

I have tried Disabling Hardware Graphics Acceleration in Outlook. I have not had a single issue in 3 weeks. Fingers crossed.

I have outlook open all day, so I was unable to test if the machine has the issue with outlook closed prior to disabling the hardware acceleration.
