Surface Pro 8 camera issues; have to constantly disable and re-enable camera driver to get it to work

I've had an on-going issue with my surface pro 8 since I first got it about 20 months ago. The camera will stop working, light will stay on. This happens quite frequently, up to a few times per hour sporadically while using the camera. I've only really been bothered by this more recently as I've been using the camera more for work.

Both front and rear-facing cameras will cease working when this happens.

Disabling and re-enabling the camera driver solves the problem temporarily, making me think it's a driver issue. I've previously attempted to uninstall and install the latest drivers to no effect.

Thank you for your time in this matter.

Thank you for reporting the issue. A fix is available through Windows Update.  For more information about updates for your Surface available through Windows Update see the Surface Pro 8 update history page.

Thanks for confirming. You would think this is high priority defect. Microsoft lift your game. I can't do business with this laptop when my camera bombs out after a few hours of teams calls. It's not as if I'm using something that isn't Microsoft... Windows 11, Surface 8, Microsoft Teams. A working camera is an essential feature.

    Hi SP8 Camera problems,

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your Surface Pro 8 camera. Based on the information you've provided; it does sound like a driver issue. Let’s work together in finding the best solution to this issue.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    1. Run the automated camera troubleshooter in the Get Help app. Get Help automatically runs diagnostics and takes the correct steps to fix most camera issues. Open Get Help and select Camera from the list of options. Then, select Run the troubleshooter
    2. Check for Windows updates: Make sure your Surface Pro 8 is up to date with the latest Windows updates. Sometimes, updates can include fixes for known issues.
    3. Reset the camera app: Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Camera > Advanced options > Reset. This will reset the camera app to its default settings.
    4. Make sure that Camera access and Let apps access your camera are set to On. To do this, select Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Camera.
    5. Go to Device Manager, locate the camera driver, right-click on it, and select "Update driver." You can also try downloading the latest driver from the Microsoft website.
    6. Next, download and install the driver pack on your Surface Pro8. to update the hardware of the device.
    7. Once the installation is complete, restart the Surface to apply changes and then test the camera once the device is back on.

I hope this helps resolve your issue. Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Kind regards,

    Christopher.

I did those things and it worked for a few weeks, however the problem has returned and is now causing problems with starting the laptop, Windows Hello does not work most of the time, may camera does not connect in meetings or if it does freezes after a couple of minutes and the only solution seems to be to disconnect from meetings, run the troubleshooter and then try to log back in. As this has happened over the whole time I have owned this machine, could it be a hardware rather than a software issue? If so, how can i get it fixed?

    Hi All,

these solutions have all been proposed and tried over and over again and it never resolves the issues. I am now carrying a Logi external camera everywhere with me as it is pointless to rely on the surface camera for teams calls. Really disappointing. Steer clear of Surface pros, its been a total nightmare to work with this device!

    Regards,

    Manpreet.

Will I have to be doing this all the time or will they ever fix the driver? I don´t understand how they are unaware of this.
