go to desktop mode, go to screen saver, if it says blank, 1 minute, change it to none. it fixed mine SP3, Same issue.

Love the idea behind the Surface Pro, but been having software and hardware issues lately. One of the software issues I've been experiencing is that when my Surface Pro first goes to sleep after a restart and I wake it up, it then begins going into sleep mode every like 1-2 minutes of being idle. I noticed this when reading some news on the internet.
I double checked my power options I have my current power plan (based off Balanced) set to put my Surface Pro to sleep (while plugged in) after 30 minutes of being idle!
Anyone know what's causing this problem? Is this another OS bug in Windows Ei8ht? I've avoided contacting the Surface support team cause every time I've contacted them about technical problems like this, their only solution is to perform a system refresh.

2013-04-19T22:59:32+00:00 I too am having the same issue with my Surface Pro. However, I am not connected using a Microsoft account. I am using a domain user account. But I would like to add that I did setup my Exchange account via the native Mail client on the Surface and also linked my Microsoft live account via User settings . I am also using Outlook. Could it be possible that Exchange server (which is hosted in the cloud) could be enforcing some type of security policy.
All help is greatly appreciated. Definitely keeping tabs on this thread since I am having the exact issue with mine. I really hope a firmware update would resolve this issue since It is becoming really annoying.

2013-04-20T02:29:32+00:00 Yeah its really irritating and based on what I just experienced, it's worse than I anticipated.
My Surface Pro at first, seemed to be behaving itself after I switched it to the High Performance power plan (after a restart). Without even putting the Surface Pro to sleep, out of nowhere (or technically after some OS bit changed) the problem just reappeared while I was reading articles on the web; my Surface Pro went to sleep while on the high performance power plan (which is set to NEVER go to sleep).
So, it appears it's not dependent on me first putting my device to sleep after a restart; instead, that is just a catalyst for the problem.

I am wondering if you create a new Local account on your Surface, if the issue will continue to persist onto the new user account.
- Swipe from the right
- Touch Settings.
- Touch Change PC Settings.
- Touch Users.
- Touch Add a user.
- Touch Sign in without a Microsoft account.
- Touch Local Account.
- Name the account.
- Set a password (optional).
- Touch Finish.
- Swipe down to close the Change PC Settings window.
- Touch your account icon in the top right corner.
- Touch Sign Out.
- Sign in with the new account you created.
On this account, set the power options for dimming the screen and turning the screen off, to be different than the default settings. Please let me know if the new account uses the Default settings, or if the settings you set are used.
