go to desktop mode, go to screen saver, if it says blank, 1 minute, change it to none. it fixed mine SP3, Same issue.

Love the idea behind the Surface Pro, but been having software and hardware issues lately. One of the software issues I've been experiencing is that when my Surface Pro first goes to sleep after a restart and I wake it up, it then begins going into sleep mode every like 1-2 minutes of being idle. I noticed this when reading some news on the internet.
I double checked my power options I have my current power plan (based off Balanced) set to put my Surface Pro to sleep (while plugged in) after 30 minutes of being idle!
Anyone know what's causing this problem? Is this another OS bug in Windows Ei8ht? I've avoided contacting the Surface support team cause every time I've contacted them about technical problems like this, their only solution is to perform a system refresh.

2014-11-05T12:36:15+00:00 Solved! Although the screen saver was Off, the screen still went off after the number of minutes designated in the "Wait: __ minutes" option (in my case, 1 minute). I simply bumped up this number (to 10 minutes) and the screen doesn't constantly shut off any more. Weird!

2014-11-05T12:16:45+00:00 Brand new Surface Pro 3 with Windows 8.1 out of the box. Set power plan never to sleep. No screen saver set. No connection to servers or work email systems, only using Outlook to check a Yahoo Mail account. Checked Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Local Security Policy> Local Policies> Security Options> Interactive Logon: Machine Inactivity Limit> and it's "Not defined". The screen goes blank after 60 seconds of inactivity unless watching a full-screen video app. Help!

I did refresh to the SP3 twice didn't fix. thanks to your post, I went to desktop mode, checked the screen saver and it set to blank 1 minute and changed to None, and that fixed the issue. Thanks.

lets reset the computer, or refresh it to an earlier date. Drastic solution with no connection to the underlying problem. In the future on Microsoft products are they going to become so unstable that we all need to carry around flash drives of earlier images? You guys need an update for this problem. This is basic stuff.
