Logitech K810 and new Surface Pro 3 firmware update not playing nicely Bluetooth Problem

Hi there,

There's an active discussion over on the Surface forums regarding the 9/9/2014 firmware update causing Bluetooth issues, primarily w/ the K810 (but I'd imagine this could be w/ other BT keyboards as well).

http://www.surfaceforums.net/threads/logitech-k810-keyboard-and-9-9-14-firmware-update.11391/

Prior to this firmware update I was able to use my Logitech K810 without issue with my Surface Pro 3. However, now it just goes into a connect/reconnect loop. I'll see "driver error" briefly. And then it'll try connecting again.

Looking into the event log for Administrative events, I see this:

Bluetooth HID device  either went out of range or became unresponsive.

I also see another event within seconds that says this:

Metadata staging failed, result={66F5F5A4-2104-53C0-BCDF-9DD1AF9AE33F} for container '0x80070490'

All of this appears to be an issue with the driver and/or firmware.

Furthermore, the keyboard works when pairing (typing in the keycode), but immediately after pairing it fails. So there is certainly something wrong and I don't believe it's the keyboard.

Anyone?

-Steve

Hi all, I just installed the 10/6/2014 System Hardware Update this morning and appear to be having no issues with my Logitech Keyboard anymore.  You may want to installed it.

You want to give a try.  So far, no issues encountered.  Hoping it stays that way.  ;-)

Hope this helps!

I'm getting the same error 'Bluetooth HID device  either went out of range or became unresponsive.'

I'm using a Microsoft Wedge mouse and Jabra headset on Surface Pro 3. It's very annoying all bluetooth devices are disconnecting every few minutes. :(

    Hi Steve,

I have the exact same issue.

    Here's what I learned:

    • Connected the K810 to Surface 3 Pro -> Same Problem with not connecing/disconnecting/driver error
    • Deinstalled Setpoint Software on Surface Pro 3 -> Connection established, Capslock results in weird disconnecting behaviour - only tested for 10 Minutes but anything else seems to be stable
    • Connected the K810 to my Windows 8.1 Desktop PC with ASUS Bluetooth and Setpoint installed (works just fine)
    • Disabled Capslock ability and changed the F#-Keys behaviour in Setpoint on that PC
    • Reconnected it to Surface 3 Pro -> Suddenly Capslock works as it should and the keyboard stays connected (so far. I only tested that for an hour or so)

Hope this might help. It seems that the new Surface Bluetooth driver and the Setpoint Software interfere with each other. I have not yet reinstalled Setpoint on the Surface 3 Pro. I suppose the problem will come back as soon as you do so I stick with it until either Microsoft fixes Bluetooth or Logitech fixes Setpoint.

    Cheers,

    c6ke

I had essentially the same experience.

With Setpoint software active- rapid connect/disconnect cycles.  If it disconnects when a key is being pressed, that key keeps repeating until it reconnects... really annoying.

If I exit the Setpoint software, it disconnects far less frequently, but still often enough to be annoying.  The problem is, I also have a Logitech mouse, so if disable Setpoint, all my extra mouse buttons become useless.  "Keyboard" used to show up in Setpoint, but it no longer does.

    thanks,

    TjD72

I can confirm that uninstalling the SetPoint software does allow the K810 to function...but the caps lock causes things to go haywire.

Uninstalling SetPoint (Logitech driver software) seems to be working for me, too, but it's a poor solution, as it means I no longer have access to the settings it enabled, namely using the function keys without using the FN button.
