Fingerprint reader stopped working with Surface Pro 3 after anniversary update

I am using a Surface Pro 4 typepad cover on a Surface Pro 3. Ever since the Windows 10 anniversary update, the fingerprint reader does not work when I turn on the Surface, unless I detach and reattach the typepad cover. The keyboard and mouse work fine - the only problem is with the fingerprint reader.

I tried checking drivers, but the Windows says they are up to date.

    I have the same issue with the fingerprint reader not working on my SP3 unless the keyboard is removed and docked again.  Occurs every time the machine resumes from a sleep.  This thread shows that the issue has been present for almost a year, what is the resolution to the problem as I do not see one posted on this forum?  Yes, I'm up to date with updates.

    Seriously, thanks! You have solved the problem with this gem of information.

    No, hold on, I just remembered I checked latest updates were installed the day I was born.

    We're not pre-conceived users who are using a Microsoft product for the first time having also never used the internet.

    Ironically it was the untested, sub-standard and unsurprising update that caused the ******* problem in the first place.

    Updates will help your Surface device perform at it's best. Check if all updates were successfully installed. Check this linkfor the list of the updates.

    Same problem here.  Suddenly stopped working.  In settings, says Windows Hwllo Not Availavle on this machine.  MS needs to address this.

    I had the original Surface Pro Keyboard and all was fine. I bought the new keyboard ONLY for fingerprint functionality. The fingerprint recognition worked for less than 1 year and now I am using the upgraded expensive keyboard with no added functionality. I may as well use my old one. 

    I know that I have zero chance of refund. I feel like I did when my car was broken into and robbed. Vermin thieves in both cases. At least when they caught the car thief he had the decency to respond and apologise.
