Fingerprint reader stopped working with Surface Pro 3 after anniversary update

I am using a Surface Pro 4 typepad cover on a Surface Pro 3. Ever since the Windows 10 anniversary update, the fingerprint reader does not work when I turn on the Surface, unless I detach and reattach the typepad cover. The keyboard and mouse work fine - the only problem is with the fingerprint reader.

I tried checking drivers, but the Windows says they are up to date.

    and can you please confirm you did not have this issue before upgrading to the

    anniversary update?

    That's right - ever since the update, the fingerprint reader does not work when I first turn on the Surface unless I detach and reattach the typepad cover.

    I've noticed some flakiness with peripherals since the update. In any case, I've

    sent this in to an internal contact. No guarantee I'll get a reply.

    when you "turn on" does this mean starting after a complete shutdown, or after

    closing the typecover and letting it sit for 4 hours or so, or both? please

    provide details. what happens if you restart your Surface? do you have the same

    issue?

    It is after complete shutdown that the fingerprint reader does not work. I just tried a restart, and that seems to work fine. I have had the issue sometimes when the typecover has been closed for a while.

    The only other detail I can think of is that once I've logged on, the fingerprint reader seems to work ok (e.g., turn on Surface, sign on with picture password, then fingerprint reader works to take it out of the lock screen)
