Yellow tinting on left and right edges of screen

Just got my new Surface Pro 128gb. The screen's left and right edges have yellow-tinted lines on them. The lower-right corner is particularly noticeable, especially on while backgrounds. Found one reference online of such a thing and the guy had his replaced. Bought mine at Staples online. What are my options?

I have seen this with Apple products before.  It was related to the adhesion process for the screen.  It might need to be replaced.   I would take it into the Msft store or call for service and see what they say.  Please backup all critical data before sending in.

Hey Euge!

Sorry to hear about your Surface! Have you been able to get your device exchanged?

If not, here are two options you can try:

  1. Contact our Technical Support team.
  2. Or submit an online exchange at our Online Service Center.

 Hope this helps!

Hi Joseph Benamy,

Thank you for reaching out to us and taking the time to consult with the Microsoft Community about the issue both you and your dad have been experiencing with each Surface. As a fellow traveler, I can understand your concern, especially considering it happened to both devices. We will do our best to help and guide you in the right direction!

Voltage from the AC outlet or electromagnetic interference shouldn’t be a cause to this problem, taking into consideration that the Surface Pro supports 110/120v and 220/240v, it will run on any voltage between these values and the only thing that you might need, depending on what country you are in Asia, is a plug converter.

For this reason, if the lines don’t disappear, we highly recommend you visit our Self Service Center here or contact Support here.

Additionally, please find the instructions on how to back up your files here.

We hope this information is useful! If you have any other questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to ask!

We are always here to help!

Cheers,

It's not normal get it replaced, I wouldn't just ignore it as it could get worse as time goes on.

If you are in the US, you can go to a physical retail Microsoft Store. They will

most likely charge you $450 - $700 for an out of warranty replacement for an original Surface Pro (if they even have them available). They MAY give you a trade allowance against a new model Surface, though.

I wish I had better options to give you, sorry.

I was on the phone with a tech support representative yesterday and they said it would cost me $320 to have this fixed.

I have a Surface Pro 1 64gb and it started to exhibit yellow ghosting along both sides of the screen a few months ago (it is out of warranty).  At first, it was only when the device got warm during high resource loads.  Now, it is there all the time and grows worse as the device heats up.  I am well aware that I am not the only one with this issue and I suspect this is a manufacturing or design defect.

I have had this device for a year and a half and my seven year old Lenovo is now back in action because of this issue (never had an issue with the Lenovo - it was just old).  If it was just my device having this problem, I would understand the "out of warranty" argument but that is not the case.  Google for "Surface Yellow Screen" and you find literally hundreds of reports of this happening.

I appreciate what Microsoft is trying to do.  I enjoy the products that have come out of this company in the last three years and I am a die-hard Windows Phone evangelist.  However, all of this will be for naught if Microsoft is unwilling to admit when something is wrong and do right by their customers.

This is not a "warranty issue" this is a design issue and I do not believe there should be a cost associated with replacing this device given all the reports.  I took a leap of faith buying the Surface Pro 1 when I did and I am beginning to regret that decision.
