Hello, I noticed today my surface book 2 does not charge while plugging in the charger. I tried both while docking the keyboard in laptop mode and in tablet mode but both does not show any indication of charging. I also noticed the charger does not light up that white led to indicate charging.

The standard Msft "fix" is to flip the magnetic charging pin which is another way of saying "the charging port is unreliable because we designed it poorly and didn't adequately test it - but we don't care". Unfortunately my co bought 1000's of these pieces of junk when we could have got a decent alternative that actually works for about a third of the price....

See if you can return it and get something else. The SB 2 is utter garbage.

I have purchased this laptop about 4 months back

I'll chime in on the problems others are having with the Surface line of products.  I have the Surface Book 2 and started having charging problems about 6 months after buying it.  Only things that keep mine working are

    1. the regular charger doesn't always work when plugged in to the keyboard base, but if I flip it and gently press up, it does go to charging the unit like it did when new. I figured it was burned pins in the base. I now travel with a package of post it notes to keep it press into the right position when I travel. At least post it notes were a clever invention and still giving back good value folks at large.
    2. At the office. I had wanted a docking station to keep the cables to a minimum. Since the one Microsoft has was only like 18" I went the USB C route.  I picked up "Plugable USB C Mini Laptop Docking Station with 85W Charging Compatible with Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C"  and it has worked well for me.  I use the wired Ethernet adapter and extra HDMI port to drive a second monitor.  It charges is as well as gives me the extra USB ports.  Only thing I fount to watch is the length of the USB-C cable if you want the video to work. I think I started with a 2 meter cable and found that wouldn't work, but the 1 meter cable did.  Dock even has a mount that will put it on the back of a vesa monitor, or in my case I mounted it out of sight on the bottom of the desk. Now I only have to hook up one cable and with the 2nd monitor it solves the frustrations I have with the hi res display. The scaling features just don't really work well with some of the older equipment we have to manage when working in IT, and at the age of 55.. I just can't see those small screens.  Looks like there are a lot more multifunction docking stations out there, but I can at least say this one worked for me. I have heard that the 85 watts might not be enough if you really tax the unit out. I'm pretty much a sys admin and administrator. so I really don't push the hardware like someone who uses graphics or plays modern games.

So hope that helps a few folks out. I hate replacing equipment, but definitely feel Microsoft just doesn't follow up with real clients on their products.  I definitely won't be buying another.
