Hello, I noticed today my surface book 2 does not charge while plugging in the charger. I tried both while docking the keyboard in laptop mode and in tablet mode but both does not show any indication of charging. I also noticed the charger does not light up that white led to indicate charging.

Son of a pup. Apparently MS really does not give a hoot about this obcious non infrequent problem. My surface book 2 was purchased new n 7/19 and sat unused fir 6 mos. I still barely use it. Have had the same issue as others here fir 4 days now: both batteries do not charge rendering the the pad undetachable and useless. We have 3 chargers in the house, which I tried swapping (all MS originals), I have tried the 2 button trick snd contacted MS support who suggests a harddrive reset. The guy was not convincing whatsover and from what I read here, that is a non- solution. Of course, I bought the device at Best buy but am now on Europe, so even IF I have the extended warranty, no way to take advantage. LAST MS hardware purchase for me. MS clearly knows if this issue but the cost benefit makes it worth their while to ignore (plus Gates has his head in the clouds these days )

Just wanted to add a note to the above which worked well.

    FYI 15" SB2 512GB 16GB RAM

Somehow, my power supply became unplugged and when I first plugged it back in, it did not appear to respond to the charge and the back of the unit was really warm. I removed the power connector until the back was cool, reconnected the power and left the unit for about 20ish minutes.

Following the additional guidance of holding the power button for about 20 seconds then worked for me to get the unit booted and useable and the unit showed that the battery was at 28% with 1 hour and 21 minutes until full charge (interestingly, looks to be about a minute of charge for 1% of battery)

So, in summary - hopefully this helps someone else if their unit drains completely and will not boot (even with power connected)

    1. When you plug the unit into the charger, if the back becomes very warm, remove the power connector and all other usb connections until the unit is cool to the touch.
    2. Once the unit is completely cool, reconnect the power connector and ensure the light is a solid white but do not plug any other usb devices in yet. In other threads, moderators have recommended to wait 5 minutes - I would suggest a bit longer to ensure a decent charge for booting and to ensure the unit is not still getting hot.
    3. If the unit stays cool and the power has been reconnected for an appropriate amount of time per my #2, press and hold the power button until the white MS logo appears and then release (about 20 seconds depending)

This is how it worked for me but your mileage may vary :)

Finally found a fix after struggling for two hours. Background: I literally just received my Surface Book 2 today and finished the OS install when I noticed that it was plugged in and not charging. Follow the same steps to see if you luck out like me 😁

STEP 1. Manually detach the tablet from the keyboard.

    https://youtu.be/4fVGQPQ36Yk.

Its exactly 6 holes up and you want to push your paperclip up and at an angle.

Rationale: We have this tiny charger trying to charge two dead batteries at the same time. Let's isolate our troubleshooting and just focus on one battery at time. Note: if you have a dock, go ahead and plug the base in.

STEP 2: Download the latest drivers and firmware from Microsoft.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=56261

Note: Look up your Surface's OS version by 1)Click on the Windows start button and 2) typing in "winver" to get the windows version.

Rationale: This will address a possible battery firmware issue which seemed to do the trick for me.

STEP 3: Uninstall Battery driver from Device Manager and reboot to reinstall

Note: DO NOT CHECK THE BOX LABELED "DELETE THE DRIVER SOFTWARE FOR THIS DEVICE"  - This will result in a trip to the Microsoft store. lol

I'm just glad its working. Hope it works for you guys too.

Well I took mine back 3 months ago for the power issues which went down hill very fast and the computer wouldnt charge or even power up and thanks to Best Buys manager from Coon Rapids MN he swapped it out with a new one even though it was just out of the warranty to take back 1-1/2 month out.

Since then I have not had issues with charging, etc., however, I do have an issue where when I close it and take it somewhere when I try to power it up it 1/2 of the time I have to press the un-dock button first and when it clicks for releasing I can then press the power button and it powers up, weird something is wrong but its a minor nuisance as long as  it keeps working!

I wish MS would reach out more to their core customers that are having issues to help them solve them as I purchase a lot of stuff from them surface pro3/4, SB2, etc. BTW--if MS tech support is reading this if you have any suggestions on what I could try to fix this I would appreciate a reply.

I ran the surface diagnostic tool and it did say i might have an issue with the power supply.

I did not make any changes or installing any new application. I have checked and saw it is in the latest update.

I did a force shutdown as well but that does not do any improvement.

I also went on reading other similar problems in the community and tried some of their suggested solutions such as reinstalling the drivers in the battery section of the device manager but that did not help.

On another note, i noticed my charger gets quite hot while plugged in to a power outlet.
