Surface Pro 5 fan stops working after installing firmware update

Hi

I have a Surface Pro 2017, i7, 8GB, 256 but in recent month the fan is not turning on in any working condition. previously I can heard easily the sound of the fan but now its not turn on anyway.

    I can't access your FBH report. What build of Windows are you running? Is this

    the first time it shutdown with the thermometer icon?

    Today I tried the the new insider build 18317. But the fan issue is still here.

    I can access the FBH links either, maybe it's only available when you are in the same region?

    I was on the slow insider track, but changed to see if that would improve things.

    According to the desktop I'm on Build 18312.rs_prerelease.190104-1630. And the About info Shows:

    Edition: Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview

    Version: 1809

    OS build: 18312.1007

    Yes, that's the first time it has shut down with the thermometer icon. Was running quite a few applications at the time.

    Do you think that doing a clean Windows 10 install on the machine would get it working again? I'd rather have fans and just run the standard Win 10 Pro if that's an option. Not convinced it would myself if it's a firmware issue (or hardware).

    Not sure about the link to FBH. I couldn't see the link Peter posted either.

    I bought the machine in March 2018, so it's still in warranty if it's a hardware fault.

    Changing back to a release build is pointless, the problem lies in the Firmware, and it doesn't permit downgrading. So until then follow the link above for a reasonable workaround until the people at Redmond realize what they have done and publish an update.

    I wouldn't be surprised if they accidentally served us a Surface Pro 4 firmware... Look in Computer Mangement => Device Manager =>System devices,  there's a Surface Pro 4 entry:
