Surface Pro 5 fan stops working after installing firmware update

Hi

I have a Surface Pro 2017, i7, 8GB, 256 but in recent month the fan is not turning on in any working condition. previously I can heard easily the sound of the fan but now its not turn on anyway.

    My colleague uses it during the summer time, I gladly borrowed it. No idea where he got it from, however if you do a search for USB desk fan, you'll find a lot of them ;-)

    I'd say firmware versions won't allow being overwritten by any older version. Any tinkering would likely increase the chance of permanently bricking the device and void warranty... 

    As this faulty firmware has been available for at least 2 months, I'd guess either no one at Microsoft with SP5 i7 participates with release previews, doesn't use them for compiling software or any other CPU intensive tasks, or both 🤔

    Jan, think logically, how is downgrading to 1703 going to solve a firmware issue? Microsoft is likely going to send you a replacement, however I'm tempted to wait a bit longer until they release a newer firmware to fix the issue, since this issue isn't hardware or operating system related for that matter.

    In the mean time I'm using an USB fan pointed towards the back of the device and this keeps sufficiently cool. That saves the hassle of creating a backup and reinstalling it on a new device.

    Thankfully someone else encountered this issue!

    Would it be possible to somehow extract the Surface Pro 5 firmware from another surface pro 5 i7, and inject/install it onto the current insider build/device?

    Since as you mentioned, perhaps someone in Microsoft accidentally replaced the firmware to those of a surface pro 4.
