Surface Pro 3 Slow WiFi - 72Mbps Max (driver)

I have an Apple Airport Extreme 802.11ac wireless router at home and am only connecting at a max of speed of 72Mbps (usually closer to 11Mbps if I'm more than 20 feet away from the WAP). I have two other 802.11ac laptops at home (Samsung AB9+ and rMBP) and my two other computers are connecting up at 800Mbps+ and pulling down the same on Internet speed tests; yes, I have real GigE connectivity. Is anyone else having these problems?

Eddie - how did you go with the other SP3s?

I updated as soon as the firmware was available but unfortunately the issue still has not been fixed for me.

I'm currently sitting in my usual spot in head office and seeing similar link speeds - 2mbps to 30mbps, usually hovering around 11mbps. My Dell laptop is right next to it connecting to the same network at 130mbps.

Well there's really not much to say. The new firmware didn't make a difference. 2.4Ghz 802.11N performance hasn't changed. We finally received very solid builds of the Citrix Worx Suite for IOS 8 so we're moving ahead with Apple as the to go to platform. I really like the Surface Pro 3 but the front office isn't going to put up with a device that exhibits chronic wireless issues. I'll keep checking this thread but I'm not going to invest much more time troubleshooting. In the event that the Surface Team actually reads any of this... Guys PLEASE do NOT use a Marvell wireless controller on the next Surface. Stick with Intel or Broadcom.

Thanks for letting us know Eddie. I'm still hoping that Microsoft can still turn this around in a future update. Not a good experience.

Eddie?  Can you humor me and let me know how many Surface sales were lost because of this issue?

Working with a Microsoft support engineer on these problems now.  I'm going through the issues with him and I hear him mumble "So many problems with the Surface 3"  He didn't seem happy about all of this.  So maybe we finally got to them and they are really trying now.  But most likely we will have to wait for the Pro 4 to see if they listened and go with Intel or Broadcom.

Just bought one of these things from costco for like 1200 bucks and immediately noticed the 72Mbps issue. I am using a Ubiquiti AC AP.

Did all the updates and it still wont connect at more than 72Mbps. Glad I found this thread. What a piece of junk device.

I'll be returning this to Costco promptly.

Quick update, all - I've been in touch with one of the MS Support staff over the last week, and we've been troubleshooting the issue via remote control.

The tech has sighted and logged the issue - at the time the device was connecting between 6-50 mbps, on average around 30 mbps on a 2.4ghz corporate network. After some basic troubleshooting (checking driver versions, device status, etc.) he collected some logs, which I'm told will be passed onto the Surface product team. He should hopefully get back to me in a week or so with word from the product team.

I'm hoping that this will result in a fix during the next round of firmware updates... Pretty fed up at this point.
